So why are there no threads complaining about how the ADS is in a PvE instance yet it's exclusively a mount reward from pvp?Yeah, right. That's why they ripped the Hellhound (proper name, not the Cerberus) straight out of PvE content, something that PvE players have been seen in countless of Void Ark runs. Something that PvE players have even been requesting as a mount in the game.
If they wanted something purely for PvPers, they'd have designed something new, something completely tied to The Feast.
As a sidenote, it'll be hilarious if the silhouette ends up being a placeholder and the actual mount ends up being completely different.

You'd have to do a lot digging, but I'm sure there were complaints about it. I can let the ADS slide though, not only because it's not a time-exclusive mount, but because all of the frontlines deal with the three Grand Companies fighting over Allagan technology. It makes sense for them to have found Allagan orbs and ending up using them as transportation.
What'd be the story behind a hellhound? A drunk thaumaturge accidentally summoned one in the Wolves' Den, and the guys running the place instantly thought "Yup, let's use that as reward!" Before yelling at the thaumaturge to summon more. Unfortunately, the thaumaturge was also a Lalafell, and the 130th hellhound had an appetite for said race.
But for real, we only know the silhouette. Perhaps the actual mount is slightly remodeled and isn't the exact hellhound. In which case, Yoshi-P and friends are probably laughing their asses off at these threads.
Probably not for the reasons you're suggesting. The mount/minion shift in rewards was definitely meant to attract more people to The Feast, and it has. I'm sure what they didn't expect (though they should have) is that an even larger group of people would, in fact, not even go to unlock the PvP mode to give it a try, but instead head over to the forums and spend hours whining about how they want the rewards without working for it. It's pathetic, to say the least. If you want something, you should strive for it, not whine about it until someone caves in and gets it for you.

It's all about easy access, no effort and preferably handed out yesterday.

So now you're using the "but muh lore" excuse? lol. Also, you're the one with an issue here, why would I be bothered to go look for a thread regarding the ADS mount? You'd have to do a lot digging, but I'm sure there were complaints about it. I personally think the mount's going to be the red fenrir they previewed but hasn't been officially released yet.
Neither Fenrir nor the hell hound seem too far off of the wolf theme that nearly everything has in relation to the Feast (titles, fenrir pup minion, gear, WOLVES' DEN PIER), so complaining about how it doesn't fit in with the lore just kinda seems like a last ditch effort from you.

Definitely is. I worked my *** off ranking up, and got to Platinum yesterday. Hopefully that's enough to stay in the top for the rest of the season (prob will go and play some more, but from what I'm hearing from others its just getting harder and harder for Golds to rank up [except those god-tier healers >.>], so I'm hopeful that those in the top 60 are there to stay)
You can't get all the mounts anyway since there are some locked-out from 1.x. So one more that's locked shouldn't be some major issue for "completionists" (who aren't really anyway, since they'd actually try to do the work to get things done rather than go the easy way). Have the same hate for those who buy raid clears and then brag about having the gear and items; you didn't earn them, everyone knows you bought them, no one's impressed that you're lazy and can't do anything.
I'm not gonna lie, I'd LOVE to have an alternative method of getting a version of the Hellhound mount someway, either by achievement (ie win x number of ranked matches as we already have the mount for generic wins) and in no way am I against having unique status rewards for high rankers in the feast but my issue lies two things:
- length of the feast season: holy shit why is it like 3-5 months per season? someone educate me because I'm not most learned. And only 1 season to get the mount? talk about shit odds.
- the amount of the same names in the top 100 per season essentially dropping the list of top 100 players to probably top 75 players for the general public, aka us who really want the mount and now have incentive to play.
The 25% repeat names is just a number I threw out there by looking at the to 10 players in 3 seasons so far on all the data centres and the amount of repeated names in the top 10 across 3 seasons. i will also put it out there that third seasons seeing less repeats but also returns of names who played first season, quit second and came back for third season. Most data centres had 3-4 names per top 10 that would come up at least 2/3 seasons in many cases it is completely clear who one or two people dominate feast.
So the debate seems to be this: rewards being so exclusive yet SO DESIRED and only 1 instance, to get it. Make it so that you have more than 1 season giving the same rewards:| like, 2 seasons per reward and make them shorter... 2 months each. If your goal is to incentivize more people to play then just have MORE OPPORTUNITY. If you gear the rewards to become PURELY exclusive it doesnt make the general population want to play, it makes the people who are top ranked want to play because that realistically who's going to get the mount. This way it still is exclusive, EVERYONE that has the mount got top 100.
Right now it looks like we only get 1 shot in a 1/4 to 1/2 year time period to make it into one of those 75 maybe 80 slots to get the mount. no matter HOW MOTIVATED WE ARE, the general public aint got that kinda time nor attention span. The current system of rewards doesn't attract new players as much as it keeps the top 100 now, in the top 100 forever unless they choose to retire.

I was being half serious, since XIV can have rewards that can make sense in lore, but I forgot about the "no fun allowed" sign when entering these forums.
Besides, you were the one asking if there were complaints about it. I'm 99% sure there were, if you'd dig through the forums.
I suppose the red fenrir could make sense, since it'd be possible to capture a wild hoarhound (think that was the name of the species that fenrir is a part of). Hellhound wouldn't make that much sense though, since they're unlikely to be natural to Eorzea, and have to be summoned from the voOriginally Posted by lovelikewinter
