I'm indifferent with the chat restriction because the only useful advice I've seen is in regards to someone getting 10 medals, and I'm pretty sure I'd get band for indecent language if I wrote it here. I am however more thankful for the quick chat macro's they're adding as a PS4 user. These, once people get used to them, will help out in randoms a whole lot.

Or people are unhappy. I don't see any toxicity here, only people who see this change as wrong and damaging for the PVP community.

You'll have to excuse me, but I don't see how this is anything but a positive change. People don't have to be terrified or panicked that a single tiny mistake will unleash a flood of derogatory insults and harassment from anyone else. How is that anything but a good thing?

I think turning the chat off works as a bandaid solution but SE makes it permanent then people will find other ways to harass players who they want out. Like making hateful youtube videos or turning to forums (not this one but y'know the ones) and blogging sites to single players out. Spite is very motivational and the only way to get to the actual root of the issue is to bar people who can't behave from PvP content. Which I really doubt SE wants to do even if they had the resources.

    IMO.

Taking away any features is a detriment to the game. Seems like a cop out for them to not deal with the underlying issue.

actualy if you do that, SE can permaban your account for harrassment as they got good documentation then. SE have issues with banning people as they get hundreds of reports and need to setup the whole report in cronological order and then read thru all the chat before they can temp ban, perm ban, if people do make videos well then they have good chance to get permabanned pretty fast.

Imagine if chat was turned off in the raid finder, it would be a very bad thing. Communication is important in team based games, and by turning it off, it causes problems. I agree that something needs to be done, but a blanket ban on chat is a very bad thing to do, and hurts players who do communicate. I agree to opt in individual mutes that has been suggested.

People obviously disagree with you, so try listening and debating rather than holding the view of "I can't possibly be wrong and there is no compromise for differing opinions (and anyone who disagrees with me is toxic)", and we will be able to have healthier discussion and a more positive community

Toxic chatter is mostly in unranked and low-ranked matches, and sometimes when matchmaking fails and un/low-ranked players get thrown in a match of Golds and Platinums (and proceed to throw the match for not following any strats that are being discussed...is it really that hard to go hit the guy with a big 1 on their head?)

Communication is essential in high-level Feast. Period. Disable the chat in Unranked and Bronze matches for all it matters (they don't listen to anything anyway...which is a cause of the toxic behaivior), but leave chat in Gold/Platinum/Diamond matches. People there use it as intended and need it to win against other good players (example, I play Bard. I *love* when healers have a macro asking for mana. Absolutely love it. As much as I try to pay attention to your mana, I have to keep myself out of trouble and watch for melee burst too, and some healers want mana sooner or later than others.)

I disagree. Savage fights are still on very tight and predictable timers, so as long as players are observant and attentive to the fight situation, the fight can be won without any conversation taking place. If there were more random/unpredictable elements, I could agree with you, but everything being so predictable makes conversation relatively non mandatory.

Is this really a reaction to trash talk? Here I thought they were just going for the Dark Souls crowd somehow...
