it's done the way it is because it took a certain craft to make the item then that should be the craft to repair it.

but carpenters use growth formula alpha to repair wands..
I don't like it. I'm happy about the recent patch though.
before: bow gets damaged in about 1-2 hours
after: bow gets damaged after about 5+ hours
True, and good point. They need to make a system where the player that seek repair should be able to put the material with the item for repairs and offer money, materials, or items. This way the repair player can just use the material come with the item to repair itself and get some reward on the side. I mean, it should have an options for player who seek repairs to choose to supply the materials for repairs.so your saying you shouldnt have to tip people to repair you, its the same as doing it for free. same concept.
also, this is the flawed logic in offering the repair material
If i have the material, i want to be paid the material to repair you.
If i dont have the material, i cant use what your offering, so your still not getting the repair.
Again, this does need a lot of working to do, because this repair system effect the economy in the game.

what i would rather see is the person able to put the material up for "use" not as a reward, along with the reward(and they should be able to put up so many attempts worth of it)
right now half of the time, the reason people dont get repairs with material rewards is due to the fact you still cant repair people unless you already have the material, so them putting it up as a reward doesnt help
the other half is cuz people dont want that as a reward for repairs

My opinion on this is the repair system needs to be taken out of the game. FF14 isn't the right game to have it in as it is aimed at a casual audience.
No one expects the miquote inquisition!!!
I was strongly against when I was just fighting.
But after leveling a few crafts and being somewhat self sufficient, I find repairing, and being able to produce your own repair material from raw stuff, very satisfying.
I can live with it now especially that they have lowered the durability loss rates.
But as others have said, that system would be so much better if you could grant a temporary boost to your gear instead of repairing damage.
then why don't we take crafting completely out of the game. the only way crafters have a reusable income is by repairing items. if you want to do this make the npc's sell everything in the game and you have no use for crafting. sure you will pay 5x as much and farming your own mats will become useless, but hey the casual people could always have access to it.
if you think the crafters pay millions of gil to level up to not make a profit in the end you have lost your mind. i know myself i will spend over a million gil in the process of grinding for one day of crafting. i do not expect alot when it comes to getting over the value of the item and if you have ever tossed me mats you get the repair for free, but i am not going to lose or break even repairing a strangers gear. it the item i can sell for 2k i will only do the repair is i get 2200+. remember our gear gets damaged and has to be repaired as well so if we always break even that's all fine and good til we have to pay for the mat to fix our own gear.

so ved you keep condradicting yourself.
1 you don't repair for profit, but want profit.
2 you want to get paid gil because the items used cost you gil
How does me trading you my mats then you repair my item not help you in anyway? I'd be giving you mats so you are not using your personal supply.
so infact you break even. as you don't need to spend money on mats you just used. You just don't make a profit.
I was a crafter in WoW and ffxi and a few other mmo. Its not really that hard you click buttons.
I think it is silly to repair an entire Harrier's Jacket from 0-100% with just one buffalo leather spec. I DEMAND MORE MAT USEAGE!
More seriously. I Repair anything for any price put up, even if it is one gil.
