There are some bad apples, yes. But how is that any different from how people would react to players who join farm parties for content they haven't cleared, or someone who joins a duty finder instance and is severely undergeared for said content? Or perhaps someone who is offered helpful advice from a more experienced player and aggressively and defiantly rejects the advice? Mind you, these are all scenarios I've encountered in both, so while it doesn't help, it's certainly not the big reason why PvP is unpopular.

If I may be so bold to say it, many hate it because they don't understand it, don't want to make the effort (as opposed to say, roulettes which you can half sleep through these days), aren't competitive, or make wrongful assumptions of it based entirely on their experiences in completely different games. PvP is unpopular because many simply don't WANT to try it or like it.
