Palace of the Dead matched party etiquette?

After so much running solo or occasionally running with friends, I decided to run some Palace floors DF-style. I got some mostly quiet groups, which normally wouldn't be an issue, but when you get dps compositions with no tank, it feels a little chaotic without a designated leader. I got commendations for the runs I was in, and about all I was told is that it's "faceroll" and "sometimes you get people with +20 or +30 and you have to carry".

Anyway, what else should I know about going with matched parties? Do I open pomander chests? Let someone else do it? What about rooms where someone tries to sneak their way around? Do I follow or stay back? For excess strength/steel pomanders, who gets priority? How far can I stray before I get yelled at?

    Matched parties go like this:

Nobody but you knows how things work. Try and run damage control, because you're gonna have a BLM pulling every single mob while a MNK opens a chest mid-fight, wiping everyone with a bomb.

I've been doing couple of matched party runs lately since solo is getting boring. I mostly use the pomanders because most people do not even know how they work (reading descriptions can be difficult lol) I mostly try to stick with the party and let them chose the way, however if I find myself in a party with people that just run in a room of 25 mobs and then hope that I am as smn heal them, I'll stay back and/or go in the rooms by myself. Most of the floors are easy and goes quite a bit faster if you can split the party (2/2) Sometimes you have a couple of ninja's in your party, I always let them run by themselves and they are great at that. To answer the question about the strength/steel pomanders, I mostly don't use them unless I open a box and it says you can't carry anymore. By the time you make it to the boss you should have plenty pomanders again and still 3-5 minutes on your old one.

Don't forget the warriors who fulltime defiance despite the fact there's no healer in the party, effectively negating the point of the stance other than the occasional IB or equilibrium cure.

Honestly though, the best advice for using df and not getting frustrated at how bad people are, is remembering that in most cases it's still faster than soloing.

    for matched party...
1: be careful what you pull, assume you are alone because everyone else went the other way. If you can't kill it alone, don't touch it first
2: don't open chests until everything is dead... no really don't do it
3: don't run around in a fight if you can help it. traps are bad
4: assume nobody else understands the pomanders and how they help

My personal preference is to go as Smn, that way I can have a titan tank (who can tank every boss 1-100, Spur-Rouse-Enkindle with Strength/Defence... might need 2 Sustain and a reposition or two but he's good to go)

If a mnk is sneaking to a chest why do you need to follow him? That's one thing i never understood about PotD, why every member needs to be at the chest when it opens. It's not like one person is going to run to the chest and change their mind and not open it. I get annoyed when someone opens a chest while we are fighting, if it turns to a mimic or blows up you just wiped the group.

Yeah, everyone should assume spots on the floor and silver chests could explode with collateral damage. Chests only require one person to open it, so whoever isn't opening one should keep their distance. Plus, it just looks completely stupid to watch multiple people race to the same chest. And like others have said, don't open chests mid-fight. Priority should always be to secure the room first.

If you're DPS/heals, follow the tank if there's one. If not, then next in line would probably be drg/mnk/nin as pseudo-tank. Lower floors, the group can split up to speed things along no biggie. But in the higher floors, sticking together is key, just in case there are lure traps/mimics/etc.
