Sadly, some are so stuck in their ways (looking at you Siren healer, letting the MT die the two times I got you in A9S) it is one or the other. I'd rather the healer heal than DPS if they can't balance the two...
Indeed. Keeping your team alive is obviously more important than throwing out some extra DPS. That said, balancing the two is incredibly easy. Once you've done content once, as long as you're paying attention, you know exactly when the hits are coming out and when you need to swap out of cleric stance.
I am less worried about healer's DPSing in raid content, where healing is demanding, than I am in non-raid content. You can get away with letting the Faerie solo heal expert dungeons, for example. That faerie can do about ~20% of my healing potential, so a regen from an AST/WHM would do the trick. After that, may as well DPS and kill stuff faster.

Very true. Heck, even if you have MT in say VA you can have both DPSing most of the time with the odd regen here and there.Indeed. Once?
I would think it would take more than a single run of anything to have knowledge of exactly when all the mechanics and big hits come out...
Guess it depends on the person. One run was all it took for me when Sephirot Ex came out (use this an example, because right after that I swapped to SMN for my static).
Other than casual content, practicing something over and over again before clearing will commit to that muscle memory lol. A11S is the exception for my static though lol, one shot 9,10 and 12...wipe like 8 times in 11...wth! Lol
Memorizing all the mechanics, and knowing when the damage is coming in are completely separate things. You go in, heal 100% uptime, no DPS. You pay attention to when you're doing nothing, and then adapt on your 2nd time in. That doesn't mean you have perfected your understanding of every mechanic.

Sorry to my cohealer, but this made me laugh. Awesome Seph run. Awesome people. Awesome new person (DPS) who only died due to lag.
When we beat the stuffing out of the overgrown steroid weed, it did one last push and shove my co healer out of the ring. I almost walked out of the ring laughing so much.
