who said anything about purchasing a new client? that's not what I read.

I too will voice my support against the current payment schedule.
Yoshi has come out and said the game is 50% complete. That means either we get a 50% reduction in subscription costs, or we don't pay until they finish the "launch ready game."
How do you justify billing players for a game that is only 50% complete? Let alone, charge them MONTHLY.
Stop acting like SE is flat broke, god forbid the men upstairs don't each pocket 10 million dollars this year right? Lets keep on supporting their failed model.BLAH BLAH BLAH, my money this, my money that.
They need some kind of funds to bring out v2.0 but you people don't want to pay them for their hard work and the work that's ahead.
I give them my money, 12 a month? that's like 2 hours of minimum wage work. You people said the same thing, buying an 80 dollar collector's edition game for a game that wasn't finished, you got over it. You either quit or kept playing for free for a whole year.
2.0 seems to be the intended product which I'd consider paying for, until then? helllllllllllllllllllllllllllll no. They can eat the loss that comes from failing, it's not my obligation to prop them up. If that means 2.0 never comes then I'm willing to live with it.
No MMORPG is ever complete. Welcome to the world of MMORPGs. If a game is fun, it's worth paying for. And FFXIV is way past the treshold of fun.
Don't like it? Don't pay, and don't play. No one holds you hostage. But demanding the game to be free until YOU decide is read is flat out laughable.
Same here!!!
There's some people who are willing to pay right now, and probably earlier than that. There's others who won't pay until they feel the product is 100% and then there's people who would never pay for it. Unfortunately they have to establish a bar for when they can start charging. At this point they believe in a month or two's time they have reached the completion level to, in their minds, charge people to play.2.0 seems to be the intended product which I'd consider paying for, until then? helllllllllllllllllllllllllllll no. I agree with them and if you don't, then you'll probably not be posting in these forums for much longer. XD

Plain and simple, the only reason they're likely doing it is because the game is hemmoraging cash for every day it runs with no fees and no income generation. You should hold out until about mid-length next year, or even until 2.0, because it will be better for you to be "over the top" than to limp by with what exists right now.
Here are several things wrong with it:
You're allowing your remaining player base to go away with feelings of that it was getting there, but "I don't know". Then you have older players who want to check the game out in the future who wont, because they lost the trust in the company. These same people are the ones who talk about how they played FFXIV, how it was awful, and they will keep doing so all the way up to the new launch. Having it free is having a 25,000 person viral marketing base to market the game for Square. How much does it cost you? Just the cost of having the servers up - the same cost it's going to cost you whether or not they're playing.
Once you charge a subscription fee and the majority of the players of this leave the game, a good chunk of them are going to become established to another MMO, whether upcoming or already released. MMO's take a huge chunk of time, and now you've just lost a fraction of these players forever, because FFXIV does not have enough within the game to justify a subscription currently.
You've also set apart a "benchmark" players were looking for in the schedule of this game; the job system. Players were counting on that to show them how the game can change, and now that isn't something players can do without paying a subscription until the relaunch of the game. This is a mistake.
The game will be worth paying for one day, but it's not worth paying for today, and it won't be worth paying for in December. Until then, it is Square's responsibility to earn back the trust of the players, and this action stalls that regain of trust, but it doesn't stop the dissemination of the bad taste left in most FFXIV's ex-players mouths.
Thank you Yoshi-P and the development team for your incredible and stunning revisioning of FFXIV. I hope you succeed in the long run, but I am afraid your company is currently making the wrong choice by requiring a subscription fee before the game has earned it.
That being said, they are promising to offer us an exclusive experience that no one who starts playing after 2.0 will get to experience. That may be something worth paying for, especially ocnsidering how much the game has improved.
however, outside of a story-based experience, what are we going to get between now and one year from now? That's a long time to go without a lot of the mentioned features.
The dev team's plans are incredibly ambitious and I feel we have to give them some credit for that. However, a whole nother year is a really long time to wait for this.
We know they're not broke, but they're not doing great either. If SE doesn't ever collect any money on this game, investors will have their heads- even though this is mainly an in-house project.Stop acting like SE is flat broke, god forbid the men upstairs don't each pocket 10 million dollars this year right? Lets keep on supporting their failed model.
They can't let the game get so far into the red that they can't ever get out of it.
Wow for people that like to talk alot you obviously don't know the company so good they previously mentioned back in like january or december the reason they could even go about letting us play free was because Square-Enix is it's own investor also Square-Enix is plain flat out rich they just finished selling Deus-Ex an there in production of English version of FF13-2 but yeah i'm not paying i don't even level up jobs at the rate i want to because there is almost no one to play with on saronia so i sit with my 50arch farming until i get tired well im not gonna pay to farm xD
There's this key on your keyboard between the " , " and " / " keys called the period key, or " . " . Try using it sometime, then people can actually read the nonsense you're posting.Wow for people that like to talk alot you obviously don't know the company so good they previously mentioned back in like january or december the reason they could even go about letting us play free was because Square-Enix is it's own investor also Square-Enix is plain flat out rich they just finished selling Deus-Ex an there in production of English version of FF13-2 but yeah i'm not paying i don't even level up jobs at the rate i want to because there is almost no one to play with on saronia so i sit with my 50arch farming until i get tired well im not gonna pay to farm xD
