agree completly. I WILL NOT PAY TILL THE Y FIX THE SERVER LAG. wana see what a new mmo should look like gameplay wise? go look @ tera. the futer of mmos is coming and the target spaming will end when a tru action mmo come out. this game is fun im a die hard ff fan but after bein ignored in ffxi for so many years i wont do it again. FIX THE GAME or find some1 else to pay ur bills i wont do it.
Jumping......swimming.....Auction House....mailbox.... PVP...u add this in with the poor ui and server lag. there is no way this game will last till they fix all this.
i was playing with my rl firend he had his pc right next to mine. when i ran circles aroun his char i could see plane as day on his pc it was not even showing me move when i was till like 3-6 secs later.
Ok. I'll go play Tera.
... Oh, wait. Tera's release has been pushed back to Spring 2012.
I guess that game might not be perfect after all.
**Edit -- Any word on whether Tera will have a spell check function?

You have low standards. While I realize that I'm not in the majority, I can honestly say that I would pay for a subscription for the game in its current state.
My thoughts on several points made by the OP:
- I don't think the UI needs to be completely revamped. I think it needs to be polished and streamlined, and even there it's mainly just the inventory that needs to be reworked. I think the main screen UI that you see most of the time is fantastic.
- 500,000 US dollars is more than enough to justify a game existence if the game's infrastructure and personnel costs are less than that.
- Regional servers are unnecessary, once they finish reworking the UI so that more is done clientside.
- Content is coming. We're seeing more and more with every patch.
- Shutting down and wiping would remove 90% of the existing playerbase. Yoshi is very likely aware of this, and is probably one of the reasons he has said he will NEVER do this.
While I wouldn't think to call the game successful yet, it's slowly getting there. I've been unhappy with a lot of the decisions made so far (oh auto-attack, how I despise thee; let me count the ways...), the game overall is still one that I enjoy.
^ But she has the decency to respect other people's opinions. Something I haven't seen you do very much.

I just have to say I think it's hilarious that this was posted just before all the info on 2.0 came out! Literally hours haha. Every point he made was covered in the changes 2.0 brings. Did I miss something? /scratches head.
Funny how this thread kinda came to fruition. Square switches back to the subscription model, loses a chunk of its potential player base (as predicted). Instead of doing a full shutdown, they go with scenario #2a, with a release schedule for December 2012 for 2.0. Obviously some bean counters and higher ups wanted to bring back the subscription model because they wanted this game to stop bleeding money (their fault).
I'm wondering if this is the best move for Square to do. I'm no business person so I have no idea. I don't think it's a smart move, but from what I can tell, Wada's not exactly the most business-savy CEO from what I've seen, so I got no freakin idea what's going on through his head to want to do this.

I'm bumping this because:
I called it.... friggin hours before the announcement.
Bravo Yoshida, I applaud you and your timing ^^
2B was the choice I was hoping for, and it looks like you guys came to the same conclusion, to bad there' so many folks on these forums who are just head over heels unhappy with the win that this could potentially bring. It blows my mind at how selfish and self centered some folks can be.
Who would want the game to stay in it's current state and forever have 40k people. There are millions of folks who would never experience the beauty or the story or the sheer imagination that's gone into creating Eorza and the rest of the FFXIV world.
As SE is a business and their success depends on selling a product, and selling said product depends on making it appeal to as many folks as possible, this makes me feel relieved to know that the Shareholders/CEO/etc. are behind Yoshida and the entire development team.
Yoshida = my Steve Jobs
And to all the folks who just posted rude, pointless comments, or couldn't open their eyes enough to see what I was trying to say, just don't post, Please. Just close the thread and move on. You waste my time, and the time of everyone else who would like to have an honest discussion about a certain topic. Why waste any more of your life, to drop some idiotic 8 year old comment instead of providing an opposite argument to inspire new ways of thinking in both parties involved. Your just making your self look even more like an un-educated simpleton.
I have to be honest with you, of this I don't approve one bit, wiping character data in an MMO is no popular practice. That is to say if you meant that everyone has to start again from scratch.
