My only beef with it is the use of real world items in the series. Things like the car and the cell phones in Advent Children hurt the immersion for me. It's one thing to invent something based on something real, but product placement in a Final Fantasy game is just cheesy.
That you dismiss it as "Teenage Roadtrip", which really could summarize, oh, every single Final Fantasy when you get down to it; short perhaps the MMOs, really makes it sound like you have no clue what you're talking about. FFXV's story is, plain and simple, the same as any other Final Fantasy. At least those that go with the "Evil Empire" angle. Which is all of them. Give or take the particulars of "Empire".
I am not telling anyone to not like it now, am I? Just the recent games have not been appealing. The depth of story is just missing, it doesn't pull me in anymore as they used to. And more than any other, this one gives me the "teenage Roadtrip" vibe. To each their own, I certainly won't be bothered with this game. That you dismiss it as "Teenage Roadtrip", which really could summarize, oh, every single Final Fantasy when you get down to it; short perhaps the MMOs, really makes it sound like you have no clue what you're talking about. That's a silly argument because the world of Final Fantasy VII was built around stuff like that. The PHS system in Final Fantasy VII is literally a phone.
Not to mention the car chase when leaving midgard.
The forced calls in Gold Saucer.
Reeve calling when the president is "killed"
Yes such immersion breaking in a world driven by technology.....
Have you even played Crisis Core and Cerberus Dirge?
