doesn't that defy the purpose of "time limited" ?



"Limited time" only has one purpose - to generate a brief surge in sales by making people think they'd lose out on an opportunity. If that worked at the time, it served its purpose most adequately.
On that note: I'm surprised SE doesn't do "sales" in the mog station. That's probably the most classic type of "limited time" campaign there is.
