"Limited time" only has one purpose - to generate a brief surge in sales by making people think they'd lose out on an opportunity. If that worked at the time, it served its purpose most adequately.

On that note: I'm surprised SE doesn't do "sales" in the mog station. That's probably the most classic type of "limited time" campaign there is.

If by sales you mean lowering the price temporarily, they do occasionally. I remember seeing Sleipnir reduced once as well as dyes and there were probably other items I can't remember.

Well, it's time limited in the sense that the game allows you to get it by actually playing the game in that time, otherwise you must purchase it with cash, from the cash shop.
