If FFXIV were to have a new race added, it's obvious it's going to have to be humanoid that we can customize hair and beards. Problem is to make it somewhat unique and adding a feature to a human model is too boring. How about changing a facial feature, but keeping its human facial shape so beards and hair can still be used. For example these insect human hybrids from an old toy line I use to play with as a kid called Sectaurs. They are humanesque with bug eyes and antennas.
They are somewhat unique when it comes to human hybrids because it changed a feature instead of just adding a feature.
If bugs aren't your thing, then how about alien greys. Just add hair and mustache abilities to be able to customize and there you go. They are kind of creepy, though.

Green circle or hyur with horns?Anyone who has leveled up the SCHOLAR Job knows about how the "Tonberry" Race became Tonberry. I was hoping in a future EXPANSION we could possibly get Tonberry as a Playable Race.
Also, anyone who has leveled up WHITE MAGE Job knows about the race (Padjal) that the Elder Seed Seer and the CNJ Guildmaster are (forgot the actual name of the race) but it would be nice to see them added as a Playable Race in the future as well.
Other than those, we have the Garlean Race that could be added to the game.

Garleans can't be a playable race because they can't use magic.

Or rather, "all but a few" can't. Which equals "some can". Which means they would be a special snowflake if they were playable. And surely, being a special snowflake is completely unheard of as Warrior of Light.

They make it pretty clear that the reason Garleans developed magitek technology is because pure-blooded Garleans cannot manipulate or feel aether. Unless the lore book contradicts it somewhere that I missed on my first read-through.

That's why is put the "all but a few" in quotation marks :P That's from the lore book. The full sentence reads:"Garleans have little inborn ability to manipulate their body's aether, however, and thus the arcane arts have ever eluded all but a few."
They eased up on the "absolute no-go, nada, never" in the book. Apparently, "a few" can use the arcane arts. Probably not enough to sustain an army however.

Seems these contradictions are popping up with increasing regularity. Thank you for pointing it out. That's why is put the "all but a few" in quotation marks :P That's from the lore book. For some reason I feel that dwarves would fit into the Ala Mhigo Aesthetic based on the trailer.
Perhaps give them some stupid little name like Hummingways, and give them some bunny features to quiet up the viera community.

Garleans would maybe work as a third hyur tribe but even that is unlikely with all but two pureblooded Garleans are antagonists and they only come with one skin colour and various bright shades of blonde. They would have more customization options than a toberry, but not by much.
i'm still in favor of Hummingways being playable. Or a plant race. Or an aquatic race. Or an aquatic plant race.
