The reason its annoying me from time to time is: not paying attention. When its already up for 10 secs you dont have to cast it again, you just have to pay attention... and this scholar even casted it twice as if they were only hitting random buttons...I'm not looking for trouble here, but I am genuinely curious about this as I've seen this complaint before but not really explained. Why do so many people seem to have a strong negative reaction to someone overwriting a buff like Protect/Stoneskin? Are those stronger when cast by one class vs another? Or influenced by a stat like MND or something? What's the damage done if someone fails to notice a buff and casts it again?
Haukke Manor ... As a Scholar
A Sprout being SMN , two Mentors being the Tank and the SMN.
Tank pulls everything up to the first locked Door, we kill fast, same until first Boss.
I get kicked out for DPS'ing as a Scholar.
Alright... second attempt for Leveling Roulette...
DUSK VIGIL oh I love it, nope, everyone runs towards Exit and quits... DO I STINK?!?!

If they did it once, I see no harm in overwriting. You recover the MP quickly, the healer knows everyone has 30mins left and the extra 10s isn't going to be very noticeable. Now casting it TWICE... that's just weird.
I've had a few runs where people came in with the buff and it fell off mid-run and the healer didn't notice. Rather have the 10s (less for protect, think like 3s) spent upfront to make sure everyone is prepped.
The overwriting wasnt what was bothering me so much there, yeah - just how they generally werent paying attention (and having triple-protect really seemed like that... specially with the addition of no aetherflows; no fairy; casting aoe-heals twice in a row with only me taking little to no damage...)If they did it once, I see no harm in overwriting. Yesterday, I learnt that if you don't do the adds mechanic in A9 properly, the entire party gets a damage down debuff.
At 2 stacks of this debuff, your damage dealt is reduced by 60% (from 5k to 2k). At 4 stacks, you do 0 damage no matter what, at which point you may as well just bend over and kiss your ass goodbye.
And that was just one of a series of wipes. On the first attempt, I ended up tanking Faust as a BLM. Then he died in the wrong spot and the healers tried to claim that DPS was too low.
Well, I suppose that could be said for the subsequent runs. Although, the reason why DPS was too low might have been because I died quite a bit.
Why did I die so often? Mainly because I often ended up tanking the boss.
Why did I end up tanking the main boss? Mainly because the MT kept dying and as #2 for aggro, the boss then started trying to bash my face in.
Why did the MT keep dying? Gods, I'm sure I don't know, but it may or may not have something to do with a lack of heals. Who knows.
But anyway, it was all thanks to that A9 attempt that the most I could manage today, when I was killed in A12 by a BRD stacking Blazing Scourge on me, was a thousand-yard stare. Maybe I should just accept that no matter how well I know a fight inside-out, no matter if I do all the mechanics assigned to me correctly, I will still inevitably be killed by other people deliberately screwing up mechanics that are out of my control.

My question is how did your party manage to recover from the 22k raid-wide damage that comes with it? And 4 times, at that? o_OYesterday, I learnt that if you don't do the adds mechanic in A9 properly, the entire party gets a damage down debuff.

Yea those.... some things can't be explained lol.The overwriting wasnt what was bothering me so much there, yeah - just how they generally werent paying attention (and having triple-protect really seemed like that... specially with the addition of no aetherflows; no fairy; casting aoe-heals twice in a row with only me taking little to no damage...)
In normal mode, the damage dealt by adds exploding in lava is way lower, you can easily survive some hits. Just the damage down debuff is annoying as hell.
While finishing up my relic I encountered countless terrible healers, but I just want to mention one example I met in The Vault: Level 60 WHM, almost full ilvl230 - except one ring (level 55 dungeon drop) and... the weapon. Atma-Thyrus. Nope, not joking. Asked him to change it twice... only healing with Cure II and Medica II, constantly running oom, I even waited after bosses for his MP to recover. Since it was his only level 60 character I shudder, thinking about how he might have farmed the tomes for his gear using his Atma-Thyrus in level 60 content...
