Why do people beg for cash shop stuff?

People seem to think that if they do not put it in the cash shop, that means it would be obtainable in game for free. But chances are, it just wouldnt be developed at all and we would still have the same amount of in-game obtainable glamours as we do now.

When SE hears from a large amount of people that they would be willing to pay money in order to obtain this outfit idea they really want, then it is a good business decision for them and they get the incentive to deliver this extra content. That is what this large number of customers want and it also supports them at the same time. Again it is all cosmetic so the game is not hindered in any way for people who dont want to spend the money.

At the end of the day, its a good business decision like I have said. If you dont want to spend the money then dont. But dont assume it would magically be obtainable in-game for free if not in the cash shop cause chances are it just wouldnt be in the game at all.

I think to assume that having an item in a cash shop means that the developers have more time to create content than they do already is naïve. I suppose it is possible they hire outside help to come in to create these items, but I think it's more likely that they simply use their existing staff. That means existing staff are taken away from developing things in game, in order to create the cash shop item that is high in demand.

Also, if they put exclusive design outfits in the Cash Shop and we get recolored, palette-swap gear in the dungeon .. or totally uninspired gear (like half of the scriptures armors)...

Then don't put'em in the game at all. Just so frustrating to be penalised because you don't have as much money to spend in the game as others do.
That's not a fucking B2P/P2W game, exclusive items in CS in a sub-based MMO is a shame.

There is a flaw in that statement. Are you also being penalized because I'm winking at you from behind the wheel of my Bugatti? Be happy with what you have, just because someone else has more doesn't make your own achievements less. Perhaps with a better attitude you'll be winking at me from your Trevita someday?

This is the last I'll be posting about this topic. Again, all of the things I say are just my thoughts and opinions, and I don't speak for the majority. I am also not trying to offend people, or come off as sounding condescending in any way. Hopefully my post will not come out as such.


Like I've said previously, exclusivity exists in-game as well. And just because some content will be doable unsynced about 3-4 patch cycles from now when everyone is level 70 and over-geared, doesn't really excuse the fact that it is still exclusive to those that are willing, or are able, to do the content now. With regards to The Feast rewards, those will forever remain exclusive to those that manage to get the Top 10 spots, and will (more than likely) not be made available after the closure of Season 3. More exclusivity. It's unlikely the Feast Season 3 rewards will be added to the CS in the future like previous event items are, and, quite frankly, I would be against that, because those rewards were earned by the best of the best PvPers--not silly vanity items you farm event tokens for every year. Bottom line is, the exclusivity is still there, just not in Cash Shop form.

We all pay the same subscription (Legacy players at a lower rate than us that came in post-2.0). We all have access to the same content, and that includes the Cash Shop--it's not like one has to pay an extra $5 USD/month in order to buy items off of the Mogstation. No one is being penalized for not participating in buying items from the Cash Shop. They are labeled "premium items", but just because I have them and someone else doesn't, doesn't mean that I look down upon that person, or think that I am better than them. That's just silly. And really, if someone feels like they are being penalized, or singled-out for not having the extra income to buy a virtual dress, well, I don't really know what to say to them.

I'm not saying anything negative against those that don't have the "luxury" of disposable income; not calling them poor or lazy or broke or deadbeats or whatever. Life happens. A few years ago, I didn't have any extra money to go towards things I wanted. Just saying that it is not the end of the world if you cannot buy that Fat Moogle Mount, or that Far Eastern Matriarch's Attire. I know it sucks not being able to have what you want; don't get me wrong. But if you let it affect your mood and your gameplay so much that you can't have the Chinese outfit for your avatar, I feel that you are putting too much importance on vanity items that really, in the end, do not matter all that much (in the grand scheme of things).

Think of it this way (to put a semi-positive spin on things): in the future, when you come across some "disposable income" (allowances, birthday money, Christmas money, pay raise, yearly bonus, etc.), those items will still be there for you to purchase, if that is your desire. Heck, they may even be on sale (I think the CS has sales during the holidays?)! The same cannot be said for some of the other items, be it in-game (Feast Season 3 PvP mount) or external merchandise (Wind-up Bahamut--DLC expired December 31, 2015). No one is forcing people that can't afford vanity items into buying them. Like I said previously, if you are feeling "pressured" or "forced" into buying Cash Shop items (or even external merchandise items just to get that Peridot Carbuncle minion or that set of Primogs--which, really, those items weren't intended to be "DLC + Plushie!" or "DLC + Soundtrack!" merchandise, but the other way around--but I'm going off another tangent...), I don't think the issue lies with the Cash Shop itself, and I really don't know what to say to you to make you feel better.

Exclusivity will always exist in life. It's unfortunate, but that's the way life works. It's not always fair. I don't think that SE puts stuff in the Cash Shop, and then sits back and laughs at those that either won't or can't buy them. They put them there to make money, nothing more, nothing less. They're a business, after all, and businesses exist to make money. The practices some businesses use to do so can, undoubtedly, be questionable, but I digress again.

Just be happy with what you do have. That's what I try to do, at least. And I honestly think that paying your bills and paying for your schooling or your children or whatever other expenses you may have are for more important than a virtual dress.

Alright. Sorry again for the wall-o-text. Hopefully I was able to put my thoughts down in a coherent manner. And, again, not trying to offend anyone, or throw more gas on a raging fire, or come off as condescending. Just sharing my final thoughts on the matter. I accept that others will probably disagree with me, and that's okay. After all, life would be boring if everyone had the same thoughts and opinions on things. :3 Really have enjoyed the friendly debates I've had about this topic though. Let us put aside the fact that the cash shop is probably an easier sell to the bean counters in the company, and so appealing to them and saying "There is profit in this" is a more likely way to get things. If you want something in the cash shop or in-game depends on what resource your have more of:

Time or Money.

If you have more free time than free money, being able to earn something in game is appealing because it lets you spend your free time to get something you want.

If you have more free time than free money, something being the cash shop is a pain since it represents either a strain on your limited resources or something you simply straight-up can't afford.

If you have more free money than free time, being able to buy something you want in the cash shop is appealing because it lets you spend your disposable income to get something you want.

If you have more free money than the free time, something being acquirable by an in-game grind represents either a strain on your limited time or something you simply don't have the time for at all.


The game could of course just hand out everything for free out the gate to everyone but that hardly feels special or rewarding for either camp.

You know the thing where no one could give any good arguement to not put those items in the game as well and let the players decide by themselves in which they should get those items.

Instead of doing it and try to convince people they just use some examples that can't relate to the initial debate.
