Why do people beg for cash shop stuff?

Well from a business stand point I could see SE adding items people want to the game faster if they can make some extra money off it in the process by adding it to the cash shop so that really the only reason I could see people do it.

Implying your sense of value is objectively better than someone else? Some people think video games are a waste of time and money. Are they now suddenly correct? My guess is you would think not because what you value is different from them. Just like the people who spend money on the cash shop value those items differently than you do.

If someone makes enough money to support themselves and their family, who cares what else they spend their money on? If they truly feel like they get their money's worth from their subscription, what's so wrong about them tossing SE another $15-18 for a snazzy outfit for their avatar?

What you're not seeing is I'm saying people don't have to be lazy just cause they want to buy something. And if what I said was insulting that was the point. It's not respectful on either side. So what you're saying is it's ok for YOU to insult people but if they defend themselves they are wrong and wasting their money? Who are you to say what other people should do with their money? So everyone should go to you to ask what is a waste of money and what isn't? When you make statements like " that's a waste of money" you can only speak for yourself. You can't tell 10 other people what they should spend THEIR money on.

Don't worry Cammi. I know you normally keep a pretty level head and try to empathize with both sides of the debates on these forums. I was just directing you to understand Lunafreya's response.

I too would prefer if cash shop threads would cease. The debate has been long since dead, and no amounts of pages is going to change Square's mind on the matter.

I would prefer if all these "please add X item to the cash shop" said, "Please add x item". The FFXIV developers are intelligent enough to decide how they want to implement it, they just need to know the demand is there.

Where did I insult anyone?! It was you with the petty insult about people being garbage dwellers. I didn't condemn anyone for purchasing anything. All I really said was that we aren't poor because we don't like to buy high priced items.

To play devil's advocate for a bit, why should it require effort to acquire glamour items? You're customizing your avatar, and it has no mechanical effect. This is a game, after all. Why should I have to do what is commonly described as "work" for pure aesthetics?

This is a fair point, though it doesn't take into consideration one thing: This is a linear, vertical progression based MMO. The only rewards you can give people outside of introducing horizontal progression are cosmetic ones - outfits, minions, mounts, etc. As an example, the incentive to do things in the Golden Saucer is to get enough MGP to exchange for one of these cosmetic items. Similarly, you have the DoH market which is pretty much narrowed to crafted gear (for early prog) and cosmetic stuff. Housing as a whole is just a virtual box for you to store a bunch of cosmetic bits and pieces in.

I would be all for introducing horizontal progression personally, but as it stands cosmetics are basically the only reward they can use for stuff that doesn't fall in the difficulty ladder between daily dungeon grind and raiding content.

Also if you consider playing the game work then I don't really get why you'd pay monthly for it instead of playing a F2P game that has the same glamour options.
