FFXV clearly used all the income of XIV
To the people that think the CashopShop is a good thing:
You're crying when, us raiders, got exclusive items so do we for the CS items.
Im a student and i can't pay for those items but i would enjoy them.
Why should you have it and not me since we're paying the same sub ?
Put a way to obtain'em in the game and in the CS for the stupid lazy ppl
I'm speaking for myself here, and not in any way claiming to speak for the majority but...
If it negatively impacts your gameplay experience so much to see people running around with the "exclusive" Odin mount, or wearing the "exclusive" Chinese dress, or sporting that new "exclusive" Doman barding... The CS sells purely vanity items. They do not sell legitimate content, weapons, or gear. The "gear" in there are level 1 glamour items. The only "weapons" in there are the Lightning Returns Event weapons--which would have no use in real, end-game content other than vanity/glamour. And last time I checked, "A12S Clear" was no where to be seen on the Mogstation.
By this logic, the devs should do away with PvP and Savage-exclusive mounts as well. Not everyone as the skill to do Savage content. Not everyone has the time to do Savage content. Not everyone is willing to do Savage content. Same can be said for PvP. But there's those "exclusives" again you both seem to be speaking so negatively of. For people that were willing to put in the extra effort to obtain them. Not really any different than those willing to pay $24 USD for an account-wide exclusive mount, except one was paid for with game-time and dedication, and the other with money someone earned. And while you may be sick of this "excuse" of "I earned my money," it's not really any different from saying: "I earned my [event minion]!" Both required work (in some shape or form); both were earned. I don't think it's called for to start criticizing people for buying a vanity item. It's not like they bought their way through A12S (which, btw, I have seen people advertising in PF on my server that they will PAY for Savage clears--I think that's far more disturbing that someone buying a virtual dress for their virtual character).
Sure having the Odin mount as a reward for doing the trial would probably promote the content. I won't disagree there. However, I don't think it's some gameplay-breaking thing having it in the CS, and people really shouldn't let it ruin their gaming experience as much as they do. As for the other CS mounts, the two Magitek ones are recolors of the original in-game one, Bennu is a recolor of the Zu mount, and the Fat Moogle Mount is the ugliest thing I have ever seen. They don't affect me negatively at all.
Most of the minions and glamours offered in the CS were from past seasonal events. I don't think there's a minion in the CS that wasn't, at one point, obtainable in game. Others have already touched on this, but the Chinese exclusives (dress, emote, barding) and Korean exclusives had to be purchased with real-life currency in their respective countries. It would be unfair to make the original player-base that these items were designed exclusively for (until others asked for them to be shared with other regions) pay for these items, and then give them out for free to the rest of us. Just like if they gave out the items from the Summer Promotion (maid/butler outfit and OFC mount) for free to another region where as NA and (some) EU subscribers had to jump through hoops to get the items.
I understand what it means to be a collector. I have collected things my entire life. I am a collector of minions with regards to FFXIV, for example. However, I have accepted that there are some I will never obtain due to their "exclusivity" (Cait Sith Doll, Wind-up Bahamut, Wind-up Dalamud, PvP minions like the Wind-up Cheerleader and Fenrir Pup). I am fine with that, and it doesn't negatively impact my gaming experience just because my best friends in-game have the Cait Sith Doll and I don't, or because I see people with the Wind-up Cheerleader that I will never have because PvP doesn't interest me. If people let things like outfits and minions and mounts ruin their gaming experience...I'm sorry, but I think there's a bigger issue there, and it doesn't have anything to do with exclusivity of certain items.
Someone else already touched on this, so I'm just echoing their post but: to someone who picked up the game today, "old event items" and "exclusives" are synonymous. I started playing this game on November 18, 2015 (when I made my main). I missed the 2015 Halloween Event. Those items were exclusively unobtainable for me due to the time I began this game. Same can be said for the Lightning outfit, the 2015 The Rising Event minions, the 2015 Moonfire Faire event items. They are one and the same.I think old event items are fine in the cash shop, but not exclusives.
TL;DR: I think it's silly to let such "exclusivity" of pure vanity items ruin a person's gameplay experience. Don't insult people that want to buy their character a dress from the CS--be more concerned those IN GAME that advertise that they want to BUY CONTENT CLEARS--be with with in-game or real-life currency (I have seen advertisements for both). And past-seasonal events are still considered exclusive to those that weren't playing the game at the time until they are added to the CS to allow those that missed out on getting them for free buy them, if they so wish.

Thank you. ^^;; Sorry I am just getting a little frustrated with all the Cash Shop threads (pro- and against it). I have zero issues with the CS as long as it stays a one-stop shop for all things vanity. Now, I would have issues if it became a P2W thing, and started selling actual buffs, or fully melded Ironworks Crafting/Gathering gear, or Savage gear. But, as it is now, I don't understand why people get so upset over it (and I'm speaking from both sides).
It's kind of along the lines of "Why do you care so much about what someone else (who you don't even know) does?" If me buying a dress and a minion completely shatters a person's FFXIV experience, I'm sorry, I just think they have bigger problems in life that have nothing to do with a vanity shop.
I'm sorry about what I said about the Moogle mount. D: I know people love moogles. Just...I don't. X3 Never forget all those Moogle quests to unlock their beast tribe quests.... XD My frustration was showing when I called it ugly. *gives cookie*

Lately ,there have been a lot of threads on this "matter" . From my point of view, it's a false problem as long as it's glamour and doesn't sell like you said buffs and items that do impact gameplay. But for real now, you're going to complain that I can obtain some vanity items and give example like you're a student and can only pay a sub? That situation was relatable for me maybe 12 years ago, but even then there were some items in cash shops in other games I played.

Agreed. I would like all millionaires to please scuttle their yachts because I cannot afford a yacht but I would really like to have one. I work and pay taxes just like they do but I can't have a yacht so no one can have a yacht.
I don't like it when people beg for items to be in the CS right away but this argument struck me as whiny.

I think a lot of people like the cash shop, because they have a great sense of loyalty to the developers. The developers have made it clear on a few occasions that their budget is low, and people will naturally think that putting more money into the game = higher budget. Whether this is true or not, I have no idea (as in higher cash shop specifically = higher budget).
Whether that higher budget is used to create a larger and better game is also yet to be seen. Stormblood has 3x the budget, I've heard, so we may find out soon enough what a higher budget means.
From my perspective, we haven't really got more stuff since the cash shop's arrival. We've gone down from 3 to 2 dungeons per patch, and got a few other things in its stead (potd, diadem, lov, feast etc.).
I've played many MMOs over the years that have started off with and without cash shops, seen the same arguments and insults being flung back and forth (x is lazy for wanting to pay/ x is jealous that they're too poor to buy y) and I've seen the slippery slopes of cosmetic only cash shops start working in "harmless" in-game things such as potions and teleport scrolls. Most of these go on to become the typical gamebreaking cash shops that sell gear protects, statted costumes, special gear enchantments, and so on. Granted, most of the time these were f2p games or games that started off p2p and gradually went f2p. This led to alot of players quitting and those who initially defended and flung insults in the name of the cash shop crying because they had barely anyone to play with. Granted, I don't think FFXIV will ever go f2p as SE has shown their devotion to the subscription model through FFXI but a good deal of people that play this game play it because they believe that in paying up front they should be able to access everything the game offers without being forced to pay more for it. Sure, these glamour items don't really impact my gameplay and I personally haven't bought anything from the cash shop as none of it interests me and my in-game glamours are fine as is. But the point of a p2p model is that you pay up front so you aren't forced to keep paying microtransactions for various things. I'm fine with there being cash shop shortcuts to glamours as long as they're available in-game as well (exceptions being the korean/chinese outfits that those players also had to pay for) but the notion of exclusivity and being forced to pay more on top of what we already pay to avoid said paid exclusivity starts looking alot more like the f2p microtransactions people despise.
Tl;dr A cash shop shortcut for those who don't want to work for it is fine to supplement income, exclusivity unless special cases (korean/chinese outfits) is not.
It's you who doesn't understand. We pay something called a subscription fee to play this game. It's this thing where you pay money to the developer every month to continue to play, and in exchange they develop new content to keep you playing. We are already paying for further development, including new outfits. The problem here seems to be that you don't understand what money is.
