You silly thing you! people don't work for gill, it is indeed LESS time consuming, when you can just buy the gill to get the items, which people do a lot of when very important items are expensive. it's not the same as grinding tomes which require you to actually PLAY the game. when you need to buy the items, some poor fool just goes off and spends his money to buy gill, then the items.

I even had this in my face first hand when i was on mumble with an old raid team and they OPENLY talked about buying gill because the items for the 3.1 relics were to expensive. and made it clear they were not alone in doing this. and even back when the ARR relics needed materia, random FC members on an old server freely admitted they buy gill to pay for the price hiked materia, This is why requiring tradable items is, and always will be a bad idea for relics at least to me. Because all it does is encourage gill buying.

So the "legitimate" thing is up for debate.
