From what I've heard, they're not doing stuff like that again. Although maybe that was just the stuff like requiring the hard primals. In any case, they're not making 'difficult' steps in the relics in the future.
If they make primals a requirement the 240 will be my last. I do not care for small platform raiding with aoe all over the floor...

Y'know, when I told my wife some of what was involved in the reconditioned stage of the anima grind, and some of the things the anima says during upgrades ("More...I need more" or somehing like that), her first response was a worried glance and a gut feeling that our anima might become obsessed with power and turn evil on us. It'd be interesting to see if, in the last stage, the anima spirit became strong enough to leave our weapon and turned malevolent, forcing us into a trial where we have to fight/kill it.
AND it would keep us from boxing/sacrificing a sentient weapon when the 4.0 relic weapon quest begins.
Were we born to fight and die? Sacrificed for one huge lie?
Are we heroes keeping peace?
Or are we weapons?
Pointed at the enemy so someone else can claim a victory?

Sadly this won't happen ever again. Yoshi has stated in the past that too many people had trouble with the trials that were part of the old relic. Atma onward, we haven't had a step like that ever again. I could maybe see a solo trial, but it wouldn't be very hard.. and maybe just the end of a step, not the whole portion of...

That depresses me greatly. That entire step (i.e., the base stage of the original relic) was my favorite step of either relic to date. Every other step since then has just been "grind old content in some form or another," and while I understand that that's about 90% of MMOs in general, this step wasn't like that...for me, at least (I joined late, so all the Relic Reborn dungeons/trials was stuff that I was doing for the first time regardless of its implementation date). At least the "sharpened" grind is just stuff I'd be doing anyway, so it's no big deal, but still.Sadly this won't happen ever again. If it's group content, it would work better on the first stage than a later upgrade stage. (So maybe the first stage of the level 70 relic line?)
To (usefully) put it into a roulette, they need to expect most players to unlock it. Hydra and Chimera could be put into the Trials Roulette because they could be fairly easily unlocked with just the first Relic quest. It's a lot easier to ask that much from players unlocking Roulette content than to ask them to go through several relic upgrade steps first.
And if it's not in a roulette, people would do it once while upgrading their own relic, or at most once per job. Numbers wouldn't be high enough to keep the queues moving, particularly not after a significant amount of time has passed and it's no longer the latest content.
Some brand-new relic-specific but solo instances, on the other hand, could be a cool addition. They don't have the constraints about keeping queues moving.
The Hydra and Chimera ones? I thought those two were both pretty easy. Several of the other trials and dungeons needed later are harder, as are some of the ones needed to get through the MSQ.
And anyway, if those particular ones were harder than SE likes, they'd only need to make any new ones easier. If they find the very notion of it being a trial to be too hard for this game, then they have more problems to worry about than just the relic lines.
