Should Dancer branch off Rogue/Thief or Pugilist?

Poor Red Mage is swept under the rug by this Dancer speculation that is apparently confirmed by the community. But anyways, if Dancer becomes a thing, I want it to be something brand new, not a rehash of something already existing. So I would vote for not Rogue or Pugilist. That'd be terrible.

To be fair, RDM is all but confirmed, now. Very few people actually believe it's not coming. DNC is still very much up in the air, with lots of folks believing its coming and plenty who believe otherwise, so it makes some sense that folks would debate more about it.

I, too, highly doubt that DNC will split off of another class, but if it did, my guess would be from PGL, not ROG. If the lady in red from the Stormblood trailer WAS meant to be a hint of DNC on the way (and not just a really sexy MNK), it's clear that DNC will be a class that uses hand-to-hand martial arts.

I think it's unlikely that they will make any more jobs that split with other jobs on the same class, but I wish they would. I'd like to have more, and potentially subtle, options rather than more and more classes to level and gear separately.

Also it should be noted that SCH/SMN was a problem specifically because it filled two different roles. If they made dancer a DPS, it would be far easier to have it be an alternate job crystal from another DPS class. Given that they are only adding job abilities, and not class abilities, it wouldn't even cause a big problem going forward. But on the other hand, it would let them re-use some gear and animations, maybe even weapons. Like I said, I think they should do it, but given the public statements about arcanist and the general feel of wanting to phase out classes, it seems unlikely they would.

If they made dancer a DPS

What i've seen so far people rumoring:

- Samurai
- Red Mage
- Dancer

Their thoughts:

- Dancer as DPS

Dancer shouldn't branch off any class, it should start at level 30 like they have said all new jobs will from this point on because classes are dumb.

Also: There's no way dancer is a DPS or red mage is a tank. Sorry folks.

Eventually, when Dancer is added in whatever expansion (clearly not Stormblood) I'm sure it will be a Job only like the other new Jobs. As they've said OVER and OVER they won't make branching class/jobs as they did with ACN/SMN/SCH previously.

And no it doesn't make any more sense to come from rogue/ninja than it does pugilist/monk. Which either way, it's not coming from either it will be a stand alone Job with cross class skills as MCH, DRK & AST are. Why would this suddenly change when they've made it clear it is the model they will be using for new Jobs?

Dunno about dancer, but red mage could have a rapier, use spells instead of weaponskills, and have the buff oGCDs be magic flavored (e.g. have Brave be the attack buff, some sort of lesser Protect as the defensive buff, stuff like that.)

I agree it's unlikely RDM will be a tank, but why wouldn't dancer be a DPS? Dancer has historically been a damage/support class like Bard (heck, in FF Tactics Dancer is the mirror image of Bard). Even in FFXI, where Dancer can operate as a healer, it's still also a DPS class.

Just to be a part of the speculations since it's not confirmed, we might see if added, dancer become the new healer for 4.0 and if that's the case than branching off ninja/monk would be completely wrong and ridiculous. So we better start discussing what else it could/should branch off from since it might not be added at all or as a non dps class.
