1234567890Allow me to thank you all for your continued interest in FINAL FANTASY XIV.
One year has passed since the game’s release, and despite the disappointment surrounding its launch, we have received a wealth of support from you, the players. Your encouraging words and continued loyalty have been a source of immeasurable inspiration to everyone involved with FINAL FANTASY XIV’s development.
In the ten months since the FINAL FANTASY XIV team’s restructuring, we have put forth the utmost effort into not only improving the game’s existing features, but also creating a concrete plan to outline the game’s new direction. Today, I am pleased to announce we can confidently present that plan to our customers. We fully realize this is but a single step towards our ultimate goal, and that to meet the high standards set in the plan, more time is required. In the meantime, however, we will not waver in our commitment to bringing players exciting and engaging content, even as the game moves through its evolution.
With this, it is my hope that we will continue to receive your support as we will need to bring the unbilled period to a close between late November and early December 2011, and introduce our subscription-based billing system. I appreciate that this decision will not be popular, but it is a necessary step in building upon the foundation our fans and development team have made together and to realize the full potential of FINAL FANTASY XIV.
The team will stop short of nothing as they move towards realizing the new FINAL FANTASY XIV, and as they do so, I humbly ask for both your understanding and support.

If they're running out money they wouldn't make the games that were released this year. Not to mention this fine piece of relic game:

私の方法である…
Then you are not worthg playing this game.Yes I wrote Lol because it deserves an lol.. This game is not worth paying for yet..
SE made out like bandits on the sales of the game alone, not to mention the horrible collectors edition everyone felt ripped off about. This game has been nothing but a weight on the shoulders of the few people who stayed around to keep it alive.
You drop one update that you separate into 2 patches and you think it's ready for billing?
Pay to play in a month? You wish..
Gonna loose half the players instantly.
i am willing to pay for this game as it is already a perfectly good game and better then every MMO i have played so far !
If you don't want to pay then leave. We don't need people that cry about 10 bucks.
And we don't need people who cannot understand the motives of other people as why they arent gonna pay for this game in its current state. Some people are easily satisfied, just like yourself, and some people are a bit smarter then to pay for a game like this in it's current state. And the 10 bukcs ? I rather spend it on food then this game.
probably this is an estimation, it depends on SE,s part if they gonna make this game please the masses
Their building entirely new Game Client and server clients. This is a new game. It is probably costing them quite a bit of money to develop.
Erm SE has nothing to do with xenoblade :/If they're running out money they wouldn't make the games that were released this year. Not to mention this fine piece of relic game:

it's funny we finally get some people coming back into the game to try out the new features and then they decide to start charging. do they not realize at even free to play they can't keep a consistent player base. looks like it will be time for me to bow out after this happens. if they admit themselves this is only 50% of the way to being final fantasy themselves then it's only 50% ready for me to pay for it.

And you expect to them to get this revenue from where exactly? This change looks like it'll break them if it fails. I would be surprised if they DIDN'T charge til the reboot.
