So the solution is to tell people they have to play XIII to play XIII-2 to play XIII-3? Or Dragon Age 1 to to access 2 to access 3? Why not just make people play FF1-14 to access 15?

Also...when ARR was launched those who did not play 1.0 we're not required to do or have any prerequisites in order to get into ARR's main story those of us who did play ARR were able to continue where we left off and there were no issues. So how is it now there is an issue if players join the game and start with storm blood and not do the main story for ARR and HW???

Because ARR is not an expansion of 1.0.

If people weren't even happy playing the first two parts, what makes you think they are going to magically love Stormblood? It's still the same damn game... If they can't even stomach the first two parts, they have no place in the third.

Also, this time around, we have a farther warning on how this will play out. If you have friends who might be interested in the expansion, they have PLENTY of time to log in, spend a couple hours skipping the CS's before Stormblood launches. They have no excuse aside from being whiny self-entitled gits.

Because not everyone plays for the story. Some enjoy the gameplay, others fancy crafting and etc. I, for one, liked Blade & Soul's combat yet skipped every cutscene after a while because the story bored me to tears. Conversely, I thoroughly enjoy both the story and combat in FFXIV. A person not wanting to play through several days worth of content they aren't interested just to unlock what does interest them isn't entitlement. That's the equivalent of getting mad at people who buy Call of Duty or Halo for the multiplayer. What appeals to you may not appeal to another. There's a good reason no other MMO gates content like this. Simply put, it's a dated philosophy. Whether it happens in Stormblood or another expansion years down the road, FFXIV will need some means of allowing players to reach current content that doesn't require going through several years worth of prior expansions.

No, but FFXI didn't require you to beat the Shadowlord to gain access to Chains of Promathia, Treasures of Aht Urhgan, Wings of the Goddess and Seekers of Adoulin. You were free to play out of order when it came to those expansions

I have a feeling the new jobs won't be gated this time around so new players can at least level the job they want while working towards the new expansion and with cross class skills probably being phased out as well a new player will be able to level to 60 by just doing the MSQ and then can just jump right into the expansion.

Oh? Do tell what it screwed (if anything screwed with FFXI's lore directly, it was changing Cities after beating the Eald'narche). If it's just about the Zilart in Jeuno, I think SE took a "they're currently unavailable at this time" route.

I think its most important that people realize how important complaints are. The main reason as to why HW's story was condensed so much was because people were complaining about how lengthy ARR was. So its not outside the realm of possibility that some things may not be tied into future expansions or even alterations to current gated jobs such as DRK/MCH/AST that allow people to just teleport to Ishgard to only activate those quests and be story gated for everything else since everything in those quests happen in ARR (other than turning things in at the end) until 50 anyway (if I remember all of them correctly).

So you want players to skip ARR, HW and go straight to StormBlood?

It is possible by buying something from mogstation that will make you level 60 at one job (Because new level cap is 70) and assume that you have completed all ARR and HW MSQ so you can jump straight into new expansion.
Now the level potion is optional and not mandatory. It is only for those who decide to skip ARR and HW.

This is what people will say:
Complaint: They don't know how to play their jobs!
Answer: We will have new battle system so even regular players will need to adapt and get used to it (Learn it).

Good pints:
They will have access to new jobs.
They will level from 60 to 70 with everyone else.
If you create an alt or have an alt you can catch up to the expansion.

Now for those saying the story is too good to be skipped. Like I said this is optional to the player, take the offer or leave it.
