Thanalan has the gold saucer, Limsa has the wolves den...

Let's give Gridania the museum of Eorzean history! It could be a place with exhibits that let us live moments from the past via the echo. Prime example being, the calamity storyline from 1.0. But also they could add all sorts of lore from eorzean history, there could be entire storylines from throughout eorzeas past. Battlefields, story's like the founding of grand companies or of famous heroes going on their journey.

You could just click on an exhibit and you get drawn in by the echo and find yourself in an instance where you follow the story to the end.

Technically Gridania has palace of the dead, although I'm not opposed to giving more life to these areas.

As for your actual idea, I would have to give it a half no. Reliving old events isn't a bad thing, but I would rather have a revamped unending journey serve this role, as well as using the unending journey to relive instances (like the halatali event in 3.0 MSQ or the vault event in 3.1)

I agree I'd like to be able to redo story/job instances from the unending journey. But the unending journey is basically our diary. So it wouldn't make sense for us to have stories from history in there. Maybe the 1.0 storyline since that was us. But not events from the past. The idea of it is basically to build more lore into the game. There's so much history in eorzea to explore like past umbral eras, historic events and heroes. This would be a way to get more in depth and up close with those stories that aren't to do with us.

While I would adore something like this, I'd be interested in how they would write it in with the Elementals finding a museum of human history being somehow beneficial to themselves and the wood. Especially considering the demands to have any exterior traces of Gelmorra and Ampador to be outright destroyed instead of letting people study them. The Dusk scholars are only getting away with it by studying what's still underground, at least until the Wailers kicked them out after PoTD.

    Two things:

    A) I was directly implying the events of 1.0 being in the diary, having players obtain a tome from the wandering minstrel chronicling the adventures of another WoL (derplander?), this would allow people to watch the 1.0 cutscenes.

    B) I would not like history to be presented to us in this way, there is so much potential history that can be explored in other ways. Gelmorra is explored through palace of the dead, and I would like for Belah'dian history to be explored in PotD too. As well as this, by adding these events to this "museum", it means that it disqualifies the history from ever being discovered anywhere else (namely the MSQ), which is a bad thing from a planning and story writing side.

This is all on top of the point that Ametrine made, although I can let that one slide a bit because it can be worked around.

Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it, maybe the destruction caused by the calamity have made the elementals want man to never forget the horrors they've lived through so they won't ever bring it to the shroud. And tell the tales of exemplary figures whose example we should follow.

Not necessarily, we can explore stories from two angles. Sure we've been to palace of the dead and seen the ruins of Gelmorra and heard about it in quests, but we haven't seen it in it's prime and what caused it to fall. Yes we've been to the crystal tower and seen Xande and heard about how he had a massive empire, but we never saw him building his allagan empire while making a deal with the cloud of darkness to make it the most powerful in the land. We may have been to the shroud and churning mists and been told the story of good king moggle mog sending a rope down from the heavens for the moogles to climb down, but we could still watch that adventure ourselves. (I can just picture all the moogles struggling to climb down a rope and one of them falls off and drops off screen then just flys back up and gets back on the rope).

The museum could be an instanced zone that's currently under construction at all times, exhibits could be "under construction" until we unlock that story through whatever means. Then the museum delves deeper (E.G doing crystal tower unlocks more history about Xande's rise to power).

I actually dig this idea. Eorzea has a lot of rich history. I for one would love to explore it.

Still, convincing the Elementals to holding a museum will either be a hard sell or risk certain parts (Gellmorra and the entire War of the Magi) being censored or turned into propaganda for their...religion. I think a different location might be better...

Why not Thanalan? Gold Saucer aside such a museum would also have topics the rulers of Ul'dah would want to suppress (namely Sil'dih and how they fell). And La Noscea might be similar (Who broke the contract with the Kobolds again?) as well as having potential security problems.

The best candidates are Coerthas (since that also doesn't have non-PvE attraction like Thanalan or La Noscea, and the end of the Dragonsong war and a desire to prevent it form happening again would give ample reason to build a museum there) or Dravania (the Hinterlands specifically, though that might mean it would be gated by the expansion). Mor Dhona or Azys Lla? Well that would depend on if people of mordern Eorzea are able to work the Allagan's Holodecks tot heir adavtage (in fact I could see Fractal being studied for that case), though I'd think the Elementals might also be opposed to it since they were likely around for the Luddite ideology that surrounded the 4th Umbral Era (and maybe helped perpetuated that)

The issue is the Elementals want the history erased so that mankind won't be seduced into exploring the power on the level of the Magi again.

The WHM quests explore the facts that only Padjal are permitted to use White Magic as the Elemental's personal bodyguards. I'm starting on the BLM 3.0 quests, but a hearer of the Shroud (a person able to communicate with the Elementals directly) is trying to stop you from studying Black Magic.

Plus, Quarrymill Miner leves have you outright destroying Gelmorran ruins as their behest.

It's not that I don't want a museum, it just makes little sense in the Black Shroud.
