They should just do a giant cutscene that sums up everything. But that cost production too and if you want it voice acted or not
The responses here baffle me, people rather not have someone join the game than allowing them to tl;dr the main story.
Do you realize that someone else skipping the story doesn't affect you in any way?
You'd be amazed how awful it is playing the most recent content for experienced players with someone who's been playing the game for 30 minutes. It'd be reliving your worst dungeon experiences over and over for weeks.
Does effect people because people interact in MMO's.
Unless I am misinterpreting what you're saying as not starting out at 60 at the expansion, which case I also ask why? Story gets you there the fastest.

That's not true, you always get the people who were interested in the story, but were too lazy to do it, so they ask everyone around them for a TL;DR. It happens to me in wow all too often. Here it would be worse since spoilers are a much more touchy subject.
It's awful playing with the ones who have been here since launch, too. Your point? Good players will motivate themselves to look up info and learn how to play their role, no matter how many levels they get to skip. Bad players will still push whatever buttons they can reach the easiest while bubbling their bong and watching Cheech and Chong on Netflix, even if they've been running dungeons that precise way since launch.
Since anecdotal evidence is apparently fact, I'll mention that I've never had anyone do this to me in World of Warcraft.
You need all the likes, I knew there was a source that would debunk what they said. Honestly, I think when it comes to 4.0, people just joining may have to do "Post-Dragonsong MSQ" to arrive at 4.0, which just started since that might be the best way to ease into 4.0.What...Yoshida didn't say that. In fact he said the opposite, he said you won't need to do heavensward to play bloodstorm this time.
Please, if you are going to say things post sources..there is no need to feed people false info, since plenty of people believe anything they read with 0 proof D:
I actually DO have a source: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post3263909
:P
If you look at the MSQ completion list, the scenarios are split into 3 parts this time, Heavensward, Dragonsong and Post-Dragonsong. Odds are they will havea digest for HW-DS and then start you off at Post-Dragonsong but of course give you the ability to do all those quest at a later date if you wish. But since the cut off from DS and PDS is done ina good spot, it would be easy enough to have new players start at PDS and go from there.
Skipping the main story is not the same as skipping to 70, that's a level up potion and that's a whole different topic (with a solution, already implemented by other games)
The main story doesn't teach you anything about combat, you can kill all MSQ monsters by just spamming 1.
Then you can choose to not answer them, that's not a reason to wish someone didn't play this game, wishing for less new players is wishing that this game would die.
Okay, but what does skipping story offer a player (Including losing out on the HUGE exp for someone who has no exp boosts) if they're barred from Expansion content anyways due to level?Skipping the main story is not the same as skipping to 70, that's a level up potion and that's a whole different topic (with a solution, already implemented by other games)
