My only problem with the trailer is derplander used fist of fire and had a blue aura, then she used fist of wind and had a red aura.

Guessing she is Yda's twin sister and head of Ala mhigo resistance and royalty. Yda was probably distanced when she was young for being the second born twin and it makes sense why she covers her face as she would be targeted by the Garleans otherwise.

We're sure the monk is monk yea? May sound weird but at the start of the HW thing, the WoL came out as WAR and then changed to DRG at the end.

Actually (>.<) in 1.0 Derplander was originally an Archer. (see signature) Then he became a War -> DRG -> Mnk.

Not quite, he actually started out as a GLA in the 1.0 opening movie when he first appeared sitting in the Adventurer's Guild with the miqo'te girl (who became the BRD, the one who agrees readily that she'd sell her mother and father if "the coin was good") and the elezen guy who later (out of scene) left his party. At the very end of the scene when he walks out of the Drowning Wench you can clearly see a sword hanging off his backpack - he only turned into an ARC during the Echo scene to ten years previously .

But yeah, he's very versatile - one could think of it as a way of showing prospective players that you can be any class you wish whenever you wish by equipping a weapon or tool (ala the Armoury System). Given the fact Derplander and his party are meant to represent the player, this makes sense.

Man-of-many-talents indeed.

Speculating that it's not Yda because of a missing tattoo is missing the fact that this is a part of something unfinished, and the tattoo could have been left out on purpose...
Could of course be a twin sister or similar, but... just leaving possibilities open.

I do liked the teaser trailer for the beautiful environment and some of the fighting scenes but if it was not for the chocobo at the end I would have never linked it to FF14. On one side the new look for derplander looks great and sexy, on the other side he also looks nothing like is old CGI model. I only understood that it was him after I read some threads on reddit. I am kinda curious if his appearance will also change in the ingame trailers or if he is still looking like always. This would make the gap between CGI and ingame trailer quite big. I just love him for his derpy looks he has in those trailers, so I hope that they will at least have a comeback in the real trailer.

I also first though that this might be Yda and a lot of people think so too. Either SE really loves to show the obvious or they did it on purpose and let us believe that she is Yda. Right now I hope that she is a new character, since other than maybe looks she does not portray her that good. And in 1.0 she had quite the short hair, so either she had it grown out in all those years or its not her. Her fighting style also was never shown in that way, but maybe she changed between 3.0 and 4.0. Still kinda hope that its someone else.
