A mentor stole my house, slapped me across the face, and raised my ping from 15 to 30. Literally unplayable.
#GetSelliBack2016
I've seen people jokingly (non jokingly) referring to PS3 players as demons or subhuman in the wake of this. It's really awkward and I'd like to suggest that people not do that.
I think that leaving the PS3 behind will ultimately be best for the game, but the vitriol the playerbase has for PS3 users is really gross.
I'm not comparing to modern high end phones. I'm talking about typical 2006 desktop PCs and laptops - not gaming-oriented PCs and laptops, mind, just regular. There are players still playing on machines like this. I know one personally, in fact. Once again, too many players think with middle- and upper-class mentalities, assuming that the majority of the playerbase is like them, able to spend thousands on PCs and peripherals per year, when that is simply not the case.
Actually, I tend to be cheery and optimistic! It's mindless drivel about so-called "PS3 limitations" that brings out my cynical side.
This game is not, and never has been held back by PS3 limitations - unless you count those party members that delay your instance by a minute or so because they take so long to load in. The only people that PS3 limitations apply to are PS3 players themselves. SE has continued to develop options for PS4 and PC players, such as the W Crosshotbar - and when PS3 limits them, they don't get the feature, or get a lesser version of the feature. There's nothing that SE has wanted to add to the game but has declined to do so because of the PS3; that is all player speculation, nothing factual at all.
Players wanted a scapegoat, and PS3 was convenient. SE is dropping PS3 now, but for financial reasons, not because of the technical limitations. I want folks to realize that these sweeping changes that PS3 was supposedly holding us back from aren't coming, before they start looking for a new scapegoat.
SE is comfortable with the level the game is at now. It reaches a phenomenally wide base of paying customers. They aren't going to make any changes that endanger that playerbase. Why develop for hundreds of thousands, when you can develop for millions?
The vitriol has always been there. Let's be honest, these forums will forget "PS3 Limitations" (TM) the day that they also forget "Please Look Forward To It" (TM). In other words, never.
This was inevitable. Isn't Sony ending online support for the ps3 this year or next?
The PS4 has been out for a while now and new versions are going to be released, so even getting a used ps4 should be much cheaper now. PS3 players have until summer AND they don't even need to repurchase the game since they'll have a free upgrade promo going on.
I am also really excited that they plan on upgrading servers, too, since that's also one of the reasons they say they can't do certain things. I can see why the budget is 32 mil this time around.
I also hope derplander appearance is an indicator of a revamp character creator
I expect Bloodstorm to tank PS4's framerate really hard, as even now in crowded areas PS4's framerate goes way below 30fps. PS4 Pro comes out this November and it's about 2.5x more powerful than the PS4/PS4 Slim, so it should help out with the framerate for those willing to pay.
You won't be seeing such smooth gameplay on PS4 with Bloodstorm, guaranteed, it will tank the framerate and performance a lot harder than ARR/Heavensward, but that's the price of progress. As the game improves, the dated hardware will show more and more.
PS4 won't be limiting anything for a long time, it will just perform worse and worse as more stuff is added and thrown on screen.
I doubt Sony will drop online support for PS3 considering PS Store and other features on PS3 require it to be up. They will probably do what Microsoft did when they discontinued the Xbox 360; cease giving legacy platform's major updates but still keep the online up and perform routine bug fixes if needed.
Sony ending PSP online support was different as you could still download PSP games off of the PS3 store.

FFXIV is the only current MMO that's reliant on a console, all MMOs right now are a PC affair, and all require a PC that absolutely steamrolls PS3.
With PS3 around, FFXIV just can't compete with other modern MMOs. Check the WoW spec changes needed from expansion pack to expansion pack, they are exponential.
