Supporting PS3 beyond 3.0 would make sense if there was still a large portion of the FF14 playerbase on it. There are still a lot of people playing the game on PS3, just not enough to make continued support worthwhile, apparently.
That said, I'm surprised that they're killing PS3 completely. I expected that whenever PS3 gets dropped, all content up to that point would still be playable. That goes a lot further than just dropping support. That's killing the revenue from those people who, for whatever reason, have yet to get a PS4.
So, with FF14 on PS3 going bye-bye, when will we see PC dropped too?

No, NOT seriously.
I don't know what the breakdown between PS4 players and PC players is. Unless one or the other shrinks dramatically (as, I presume, the PS3 playerbase in the time since the PS4 came along) this game will remain on both PS4 and PC for a long time.
Its not "PS3 limitations" that caused them to make the complete cancellation of FF14 on PS3. Its the lack of revenue compared to the expense incurred by maintaining the PS3 as a platform.
Actually, it is. They strongly encouraged users to upgrade to 64bit because of 32bit limitations. The simple reality is technology evolves and people have to accept moving forward or they will inevitably be left behind. No, NOT seriously.

If people are serious about this game, They will upgrade, i started this game on ps3 and i ended up quitting for half a year because i REFUSED to keep playing this game on ps3, untill i either had a PC or PS4, (among other small reasons but this, was most of it) because i could not STAND the 5 minute load times, and, back when FATES were really popular. vanishing enemies/players, etc. You ever tried Odin Fate on a ps3 with half the server fighting him? Don't even bother.Supporting PS3 beyond 3.0 would make sense if there was still a large portion of the FF14 playerbase on it. Left behind in what regard? Advancement through in-game content or technological improvements? They could've split off the PS3 version of the game leaving it the way it is now and had PS4/PC users to another world if the numbers were really that small, and guess what, it still won't be long till they tell everyone to PS4 Neo or risk being "left behind". Its all really funny when you think about it.
They did this most likely because they will be utilizing assets in the old world that will require the new minimum specs. And no, they can go on for quite awhile on the PS4 at least 5 years+.hey could've split off the PS3 version of the game leaving it the way it is now and had PS4/PC users to another world if the numbers were really that small, and guess what, it still won't be long till they tell everyone to PS4 Neo or risk being "left behind". Besides mentioning that the minimum requirements for PCs was going up did they say exactly what it is or just in general that they are going up?
