    Storyline Prior to Game

Ok so I thought we could discuss the story that happens before the character we make start the game. I am a little fuzzy but I will explain what I know, (or think I know) and you guys can all tell me if I am wrong or you can add stuff.

Ok so it seems that our biggest info comes from the opening movie. It seems like some adventurers from some city (I can't tell which) get together and want to battle the Marlboro. In the middle of the battle they are dragged into the fight with the imperials. The 1 main adventurer that we follow somehow manages to find himself in the imperial war plane. This makes me think that the adventurers are from the imperial nation. While on this ship the main adventurer we are following, sees a giant fight over Mor Dhora with a bunch of dragons (presumably summons). The biggest dragon (defiantly a summon) blows a big hole in the biggest imperial ship. After this the dragon's summon is over and splits apart. As it is doing this we see that this one summon was made up of many different summons (making me think that when they add summons to the game we may also be able to link our summons in order to create more powerful ones).

Now I am confused about who is fighting this battle. Looking at the map Mor Dhora seems to be in the direct center of all 4 cities (the 3 you can start in plus Ishgrad). Now Uldah, Limsa, and Gridania have not gotten into the fight yet according to the storyline once you start the game. So that leaves Ishgrad to summon the dragons (meaning Ishgrad will probably have a summoner's guild?) and fight of the empire. Once your player starts playing for a while you find out that this battle was lost and now the other 3 cities are scrambling to figure out what to do because they may be next...

If there is more info that I am missing please let me know but for now this is about all I have come up with. Tell me your guys' thoughts.

I am in favor of cutscene-skipping.

I am in favor of half the cutscenes being removed from the game entirely.

I am strongly against unnecessary expansion to the current storyline, since it is obviously terrible and possibly the worst SquareEnix has come up with yet.

Wow this is very off topic, thank you for that but I do think this storyline will get a lot better as it progresses. Keep in mind there will be a lot more stuff as expansions come out. When you do the lvl 46 storyline quest it doesn't end. It just cuts off. Try to keep an open mind.

Why oh WHY is the storyline so poor, absent and cutscene free? NPCs speak like they could be from any bland rpg they have no attachment to what the player is doing at all.

    What. The. Hell.

I am in favor of more classes/content/equipment in future expansions.

I am strongly against more storyline that SquareEnix has failed with for the past 5~6 titles now.

I am strongly against SquareEnix being allowed to make such horrible storylines. Japan needs to pass a law stating they should be prohibited from doing so henceforth.

Personally, I thought that the dragons came over from Dravania instead; look at the map of Eorzea, and you see a huge dragon floating about in the north-western area of the main continent.

My view is that Ishgard was not necessarily present at the time at all; a class-quest for CON mentions that Ishgardians loathe dragons, to the point at alerting higher-ranks that Gridania was 'hiding' dragons. I would think that the city of Mor Dhona was an innocent city which got caught up in the middle between the war of the Garlean Empire and dragons, and got destroyed when the dragon decided to land and crash the airships over it. The remnants and survivors of the incident migrated north to the relatively short distance-away Coerthas, established Ishgard, and bear a hatred to the dragons for causing the harm to their beloved town.

Of course, this is all mere speculation but...

I think analyzing the video is really grasping at the straws.
I really want to like the game but they need to hire some better writer to give us some reason to fight for.

Even in the early stages the story loses it's focus and there are no main characters to care about.

As much as I dislike giving XII's bad story any credit I must say that at least it was more cohesive than this one.

What about stories from Final Fantasy games III to XI? Why can't they hire the same writers? I'm sure even Hironobu would be willing to do some freelance for the right amount of money.

I didn't read all posts, but the dragon, the big one, is known as the "Keeper of the Land".. It's still there in Mor Dhona right in the center. It's not a summon but the "Dragon King" if you will, if you check the big cloth map that comes with the EU LTD Edition it tells you that.

Also, Ishgard doesn't summon dragons, they're a city that's at war with Dragons, the landmass above Coerthas, which isn't yet in the game, is dominated by dragons, Ishgard is ever at war, so much as to have a guild within the city that recruits hunters to traverse into these lands to slay them!

As far as the Summons go, I forgot their actual name, but they were summoned by a higher diety, not the dragon. You do come into contact with it VERY briefly in stories and a cut scene within the storylines Plot.

    There's my 2 cents.

    Edit:

Through the development of this game I was ALWAYS fascinated by the lore and the Ishgardians war with Dragons.. Far more an enticing prospect than the current situation between the 3 Nations and Garlemald... Which is staler than week old water.

I always imagined it to bring back content like FFXI back.

Battling Wyverns and Wyrms and Dragons and huge colossal Dragon NM's that take a full party and a massive headache, etc, etc.

Plus I'm super curious to see what their "Lair" looks like.. Dragon cave? Dragon caverns? Dragon CITY?

Well, there's nothing wrong with a bit of speculation, is there? Thinking about what may have happened and potential development into the story may actually give people a chance to think and produce ideas instead of supplying needless comments on how bad the game is/how much they were cheated by the game.
