Upgrading the higher level tomestone gear

So the item to upgrade the higher level tomestone gear, whether it's Soldiery in 2.2, Poetics in 2.4, or in my case, Scriptures in 3.4, is always only obtained in the Raids.
What is the point of that? Require us to do hardcore raiding just to upgrade our armor when that very Raid gives its own BETTER armor? Why not make the item available thru Clan Mark Logs or Scrips? Why make us do content that will award us with better gear so we can upgrade our gear to worse of what we would get from the raid itself?

never made any sense to me ever since scob, theyve been doing this, more hilariously are those who have cleared creator savage and stilll cant use that weapon upgrade, cause yeah we got 4 more weeks of gears to farm lol

Just because something drops in savage doesn't mean its better. I know, it should, because it's savage... but it is not true in most cases. For example for BLM only 2 pieces of armor (belt and pants) are better from savage. Everything else is better either from scripture or from crafting.

What is the point of upgrading your gear to the highst level when you're not doing content of the highest level anyways?
At least for a short while having that high of an ilvl/being already able to dye the new stuff is a reward for the people who are raiding - and who are, hands down, the only ones really in "need" of a high ilvl, everything can easly be done with an ilvl of 240+ and thats easy enough to reach. After a while it is made easier to catch up, to help the people who havent beaten savage yet and/or prepare for the next patch (and the new, higher ilvl requirement).
So, the point is to let raiders have their reward for a while and not make it to easy to get those items - and again: you dont need them if you're not raiding anyways...

Mosaicex, I believe he is saying they may have the savage weapons tome but they still haven't got the seven gears for the upgradeable weapon. They are stuck with the weapon tome until they get the upgradeable weapon in another month of grinding A10N. Square putting the cart before the horse so to speak.

The tomestone that is required to get the weapon drops directly from A10S. The gobdip that is required to upgrade it drops from A11S.

What would be the point of raiding if you could get the same iLvl gear from content that can be facerolled? The upgraded gear isn't worse than the raid gear, it's the same iLvl, with the exception of the raid weapons being 5 iLvls higher.

I think you misunderstand the upgrading system at the start of a new raid in an even patch.

It's a system that allows raiders to get upgrades from the raid, without entirely relying on the RNG of a specific piece dropping. If someone gets unlucky, they can get a gobcoat to upgrade an accessory, a gobtwine to upgrade left side gear, or a gobdip to upgrade a weapon, which could then help them to further progress through the raid.
Halfway through the raid's life cycle, those upgrades get added to hunts, as well as the new alliance raids, to allow other players to upgrade the gear as well.

This way, the raiders will have a time of around 3.5 months where they feel rewarded for their effort, while the other players aren't completely left out after those months.
