This is why mentor status should be the HARDEST thing to get in the game. You should only have it if you're the VERY BEST AT EVERYTHING. And after being testing to the extreme so people don't get dick mother buckers like the ones you seen in your group. I'm serious, the mentor system as it is now is gucking STUPID and needs to be changed FAST. Yes I'm misspelling those words on purpose as I was banned once for saying them. Which ofcourse kills my point as now it looks stupid but I think you get the idea.

You can get banned for swearing on this forum? I'm surprised they've not slapped me with a 2nd ban yet, lol...

Also, yeah, atm it's not exactly hard to get a mentor buff; I'm 822/1000 dungeons off of having it, but I'll easily obtain 1000 just from leveling my other classes via dungeon spam. POTD doesn't make it any harder, either. You could level up 60 from just doing that and never learn your class, or even read your skill spells. I know this because I leveled a tank to 50 and didn't look at any spells past maybe lvl 40 until I had to do HW content.
Imagine people doing that, but with lvl 60 content ...

So I completely lost my patience with someone in a Stone Vigil run last night.

They were playing White Mage, and appeared to be pretty new to the game, which is perfectly fine. However, their playstyle was a bit... special; They really, REALLY liked Stoneskin. To the point where they essentially used it in place of Cure, with the occasional Cure, Cure II, Stone, or Stone II (with no Cleric, mind you) just strewn in at random. Our tank, who had been quite courteous earlier in the dungeon and offered to explain boss mechanics and so on, tried several times to offer advice to our White Mage after noticing he was going OOM every trash pull. After half a dungeon of 'please stop using Stoneskin like that' and accompanying explanations as to WHY, we reached the final boss.

After many, many Stoneskins, we managed to skid over the finish line while both the White Mage and the Bard (who had to keep the White Mage going with Mage's Ballad) sat at 0 MP. I promptly told the White Mage that they were 'terrible at their job' and that we'd have wiped if we didn't have a Bard.

In retrospect, it was a pretty harsh thing to say; On the other hand, he probably didn't read it. Or the rest of party chat. Or his spell tooltips. Or anything, really.

Hey don't lump all mentors into the same stereotype. I queued for mentor roulette as a pld and got Cutters with a green leaf bonus bringing icemage. I worked with them all dungeon helping them understand how the blm rotation works(the healer helped a bit too) and by the end of the dungeon they were doing fantastic. The dungeon took almost 45 minutes with all the explaining, but everyone was cool with it and I left with 3 comms.

Not all that are wearing the mentor's crowns are wearing them as a$$hats.

No you're right. Not everyone is horrible, but those horrible people ruin it for everyone else. I'm abit extreme I know, but I still feel it should be the hardest to get. It would kill all the bad mentors from ever getting it. Yes it'll kill all the good ones too, but like I said. I'm abit extreme, and I know this. But sorry if I insulted you but it's how I honestly feel.

No, I wasn't insulted. Everyone has different experiences and yours are valid and not to be diminished. I was just trying to show a glimmer of hope from a broken system.

On a confused note for my own story, a little while ago had a WoD run (can't actually remember which of the three but one of those) with 2 bards, one sang Ballad constantly and the other sang Foes. I told the one singing ballad that they didn't need to do that unless (mainly) the healers needed MP. They said they were only singing it for the other BRD to keep Foes up. Just shrugged it off as it seemed to work out but... it was a little odd. Is that what should be done with two bards? Not professing to be a brilliant bard but thought I knew my songs by now so this confused the hell outta me!

No, there's no reason for the second BRD to play Mage's so the first BRD can keep up Foe's. If Foe's falls off, give your MP a little time to regen, and then turn it back on (what I do). Or communicate with other BRDs. I have done 24-mans before where the bards all communicated Foe's usage. That way it can constantly be up (granted, if there are enough bards). Usually, I wait to see if anyone plays it pre-pull. If they don't, I stand outside the boss room and pop it on. If they do, I watch the boss, and when it falls off, I pop mine on. (Think I may make an alliance macro to alert other BRDs when I have Foe's up, so we aren't all playing at the same time.)

Playing Foe's doesn't lower your DPS, but Mage's and Army's does, so by that bard playing Mage's for the other, all they were doing was hurting themselves. And they are best reserved for when people need MP (healers) or TP (DPS--but tbh, I rarely have to play Army's at all since most DPS I run into can manage their TP).


On another note, actually wiped on Echidna in VA last night. Yup.
B and C tanks weren't controlling Dexter and Sinister. Tanked them right next to each other, actually. .__.
