Forgive me for being ignorant, but... was there some sort of change in Heavensward that made it so crafted gear was the best raiding gear or something?

Back when I last played, the only gear you could meld materia to was crafted gear and that was only really useful if you wanted to drop a bunch of gil on some starter gear you'd replace in a week or two. Any raid gear had no materia slots...
