Some thoughts on Gold Saucer that perplex me.

The thing that I have always thought about Gold Saucer is how silly the Jumbo Cactpot is, when compared to real life. You purchase one ticket for 100 MGP (and now a second and third for 150 and 200 MGP respectively) but there is basically no risk at all involved as even matching no numbers you get more than these amounts (especially if you take advantage of the early bird bonus). How has the Gold Saucer not gone bankrupt?! Normally a lottery win is basically funded by the purchasing of tickets and how infrequently people win so it builds up, but in this case every week they would have to pay out more than they were taking in to every single person, a problem compounded by the small number of people who will invariably win the larger prizes. Godbert be crazy! I mean I know he set it up to bring a bit of joy to the people after all the stuff that went down with the Calamity but still... he's gonna go bankrupt!

I guess he has bottomless coffers, like in this unlimited resource economy we can keep hitting the same tree to get more wood forever, and collect money that drops from infinitely respawning enemies.

Thanks for the fresh perspectives everyone. Just to be clear, despite some poor choice of words this isn't a gripe post, and I was just curious about how somethings are set up at the GS. I don't know much about casino odds, gambling, and how payouts are determined. Though I still find it a bit unfair for same odds for different results to have different payouts.

What triggered the post was I won AWTWB for the first time last night, and while I was happy about the 7500 MGP, I had tried to do it countless times, and figured the odds are so stacked against you for this GATE, that the payout would be a bit more I guess. Then it got me wondering about how some of the other things work.

Not really a grind thing as I don't have anything targeted at the GS for MGP purchase at the moment. I really go to the GS so much because there is just something about testing your luck coupled with playing the odds that I enjoy. Maybe I'm a closet gambler

Oh if only the real world was like that. EVERYONE IS RICH (yet no inflation)! ^.^

Given that the rewards are all in MGP and not gil, and that Manderville is a goldsmith.... I'd say that he mints his own money. From one of those endless spawning gold nodes, probably.

How has the Gold Saucer not gone bankrupt?!

All the prize-money you get isnt in gil ("real" money) but MGP and you can exchange gil for MGP (to an extend, lets just pretend that there are NPCs doing that far more than we do). So Godbert can give out as much of his own currency as he likes without it having influence on his finances. His primal sources of incoming are most likely the bar/restaurant and some sort of hotel (theres an elezen.couple talking about "waiting til we're back in our room") - while thats not to interesting for us as player, there are quite a few NPCs making use of that!

(Note: The prize for the jumbo-cacpot used to be less, but people complained and werent playing at all anymore... same goes for the mini-games)
