OK so.... how does it work exactly. Once you defeat Ifrit, whoever opens the chest definitely gets an Ifrit weapon... but the weapon is random and it goes straight into only that person's inventory?

No, there is no definite, you might or might not get the weapon, but when you do, it gives random weapon straight to your inventory.

This just makes me more glad I haven't really attempted this fight yet. There's a lot of other stuff to do, fighting 30 times and not getting a mage weapon is.. re tar DEAD!
Wow, who the fk gave this the OK, seriously a stupid idea. Wish I knew what was going through the devs heads sometime so I could understand why they keep making simple mistakes.
Or maybe they thought you'd go PL and hit that pug into 50 in 2-3 days.
Those weapon design really look like some craft-able stuff.
Ifrit should just drop his horns and let players decide what to be made from that horns. ^^

I actually kind of like it (and man am I expecting a tyrade in return for this) as it gives everyone something at the end, allowing for pompous linkshell members who feel they deserve everything.
On the flip side though, it might end up frustrating when you get a weapon someone is dying for over and over, and they keep getting yours, however cleverly on SE's part, it keeps you coming back for more, and would more than likely encourage you to rotate your party members to bring others to the fight too.
One of the biggest issues I have with endgame is no matter where you are, there is always a core group, I refer to as the super friends, who get into each party first. I am deliriously happy that the LS I am in right now doesn't have this commonly shared flaw, as I am incredibly lucky to have found a group of people that are happy to progress everyone equally, providing we put the leg work in in return.
This loot system attempts to resolve that common flaw, and while it's not optimal, I look forwards to going into the fight, to see what SE wants me to level next.

Yeah I've had fun in the Encounter, But knowing that think I'll just do anything lol till that's changed..
I've always though an item that you trade is a better system then loot from a chest, someone gets "Ifrit's horn chip" take it to some NPC, at least then they can have it crafted (by Goblins?) into a weapon they want and could even add in a fun Cut scene and quick quest to get it.
Makes more sense to then Ifrit having weapons made of himself just sitting around for us to loot.
Wont solve the item not going into the loot list but still.

If you are bringing non core/casual members in there is no guarantee they will get the specific weapon they want for their class, at worst case people will get doubles, triples of the same weapon...it really is retarded and a mindless timesink.
Vahzl I dont understand how you can agree with it if you havent even experienced it for yourself....the shear frustration.. I dont see how it resolves anything...if basicly tells people to rank up multiple rank 50 classes...Linkshells will come back for more if it was 1 weapon and you could assign it to a member. Just like they did for darkhold...
I am unsure how "The loot drops into your inventory without the option to reassign it to others" needs experiencing. It's pretty black and white there.
As I said, I was expecting a tyrade in return, but honestly, from where I sit, I see an attempt to avoid players whining about looting systems such as need/greed and "ninja looting". It's not a great attempt, but meh, at least they are thinking on it.
Also Vicious, you kind of answered your own question with "if basicly tells people to rank up multiple rank 50 classes" as I know if I got that bow, my Archer would be 50 tomorrow.
Im not up for a big boy argument today though, was just tossing in my 2c as an independent observer. I tend to try to apply logic from all sides before I scream and spit at something. Sometimes the conclusions I come to may not be agreeable to my own opinions, but you have to examine things from more than just one standpoint.
