Here's the thing, though. Many (or most) people would be less frustrated with lower drop rates than they are with the random system. It's one thing if no one gets the shiny new sword. It's quite another if the mage gets it.It's random drops. You are guaranteed something, but it's random. Other games don't give you guaranteed items...so going to loot is necessary so you can give the item to people who need it. No other game is just going to hand you the right item...you have to work for it. They could always make the weapons have low % drop rates, then put them to loot. But I bet it wouldn't be any faster.

The entire loot system of the game needs to be redone. Master looter should be an option and a random number roll system should be implemented with the loot table.
WoW has a very very very very very very very successful loot table system, I see no reason why XIV cannot use some form of it.
I do pretty much agree with this. As it stands, the loot system needs a lot of work. . .The entire loot system of the game needs to be redone. Master looter should be an option and a random number roll system should be implemented with the loot table.

In the mean time, I just thought of what might be causing this. So far, every chest that has had a check for its loot has gone straight to inventory. If I'm not mistaken, this can be traced back as far as faction NM chests. Take, for example, a chest at the end of Mammoth and Master:
Check: Are all enemies defeated? (Spawn check, no effect on anything yet)
*Once spawned*
Check: Has player completed "Wanted: Mammoth and Master"? (This is your "locked" check, which I believe causes the issue)
Yes: Add rune stones to drop list
No: Crystals only
Compare this with the Darkhold chests. . .
Check: Are all enemies completed? (Or, "Were all lights activated?" etc. . . )
. . . and that's it. There is no "locked" check. I believe it's this second check that is linked to drops skipping the loot list. Think about it, even the crystals at the end of the faction NMs go straight to inventory, whereas clusters in normal leve chests don't. Moving along, we get the new Stronghold chests, which have a constant spawn, but also have a "locked" check. What does their gear do? Why, it falls straight into your inventory! And, last but certainly not least, we have the Ifrit chest. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is an item that acts as a "key" for this chest, no? If so, there you have your spawn check and your lock check. . .
No, there is no garunteed drop. Kill 34 now and two of the group have only received one item. The drop rate chance is where it should be. At the rate that they're getting items it'll take them over 200 kills before they get the weapon they want. That is ballsfucking stupid. It's random drops. You are guaranteed something, but it's random. Other games don't give you guaranteed items...so going to loot is necessary so you can give the item to people who need it. It almost sounds like Ifrit is a waste of time. The beastmen camp chest items are the same exact way. Hopefully the devs can address this soon =/
I agree that this drop system is down right terrible. Why change the loot list drop system? Worked fine.
Please, PLEASE, change this (and the beastman stronghold drops) to go into your loot list instead of going into your inventory so that proper characters can get the equipment they deserve.

With the new drops anyone know what happens if you have a full inventory and you get an item? Does that go into the loot pool like it does when you solo, or does it go to the ground.
Was talking about this with my ls tonight, was brought up. Might be a way to force it to less us distribute items.

The system is pure retarded.....give us loot master or some at least the loot list system.....I dont understand how someone could design a system so flawed....making 1 weapon drop and being able to assign the weapon would make you grind the instance anyway.....
Some people only have one or two classes rank 50!
Why do this SE?
