By that logic, there'd be no need for us to even have characters. The whole game could be text without pictorial avatars at all, but it wouldn't be nearly as engaging. And for simple communication, like thanking someone, sure it can be done either through text or emotes, but doing it visually through our characters is much more expressive.

I'm not so sure that we necessarily need a new emote for it, as there are some existing ones that can be made to work. Personally, I use /serpentsalute which is already kind of a cross between a salute and a bow, and seems a suitable way to acknowledge someone's help. If there's time, I may also thank them in text, but that's secondary. (Plus, in a lot of cases where it comes up, they're gone by the time I can switch to my keyboard to type something.)

I mean that would change the game entirely into a text-based adventure, in which many of the feats you're able to accomplish in the current game would be impossible. And yes, it wouldn't be as fun. Really not the same thing.

I love the emotes and everything, but I don't think they are always a better way to convey certain things (Hell, I tend to read the text of the emote more often than look at the expressions the character, since most of the time I notice that before I even had the chance to look). This particular request seems unnecessary because there are already other options as you and others have pointed out.
