arent the WoD job names(Ranger-Knight-Magus-Devout) just more references to Final Fantasy III along with the whole flooding light destroying the world?. Cloud of Darkness,Xande and Crystal Tower are all references from FFIII as well so it makes sense they'd refer back to it again.

Warrior is also a class in FF 3, being it's version of the Fighter class...
They are all named after classes from FF 3, and their whole story could very much be indeed a reference to it.

While there is a Bard class in the game, it uses daggers and harps, the Ranger class being a bow using damage dealer is closer to FF XIV's Bard which is probably why they used that instead...

A Ranger job armed with crossbows would be nice. Shame we'll never see a Bard job armed with music rather than the bow and arrow though.

Ranger would be a cheap way for them to add a new job. But to some a new job is a new job
