I don't get that phrase, why wouldn't I eat a cake that's mine? We're just looking for alternative methods to acquire an item that's in a good deal of the lighting recipes and was too rare before being made obsolete. They've already added minions and such from the old maps to both potd and aquapolis, why not a material that could use a boost in availability on the market boards?

Key part in understanding the phrase is "at the same time." It's impossible. You can't own your cake after you've eaten it. Mainly used for something that is an unreasonable request.

That said, I do think that in this scenario, SE should make it possible. They should probably at least split ARR maps and HW maps.
