I think it's gonna be more the WoL riding that thin line between Light and Dark if anything.

MSQ seems to be taking the 'light and darkness in equal measures = good; imbalance = bad" route that FFIII and Kingdom Hearts have going on. I'm very pleased by that, personally, because I do love me some equilibrium between powers and neither being inheritly bad unless you use it for bad things (the First going down in light is a straight reference to FFIII's past flood of light. Good).

As for the Eyes; we saw Nidhogg going pop. Not body-wise, but soul-wise. That's the important thing here - Midgardsormr went pop body-wise and managed to reconstruct a body (albeit small for some reason) within 10 years, all the while while being completely aware of everything in Mor Dhona and with the whole Hydaelyn shenanigans.
Nidhogg, on the other hand, went pop soul-wise, much like Ratatoskr did. There's no coming back from that kind of death, not even for dragons of the first brood.

Now, that nasty popsicle good old Elly handed Totally-Not-Ilberd-Probably? That's a tremendous source of Aether. I'm speaking massive here. No vengeful dragon soul attached this time.
The Griffin wants to summon Rhalgr as primal to take back Ala Mhigo by force. Tremendous source of Aether. Summoning a primal. Hm.

It wasn't a smart move to toss the Eyes off the Steps of Faith in hindsight, but who was on the Steps of Faith that day? Nidhogg's brood, which probably immediately scattered away when Nidhogg was defeated, before you remove the Eyes. Ishgardians - none of which would ever be stupid enough to bring back Nidhogg after a thousand years of war, even if Nidhogg's good old vengeful soul still resided in the Eyes. Scions - again, none of them (and you as WoL) would get the Eyes. Hraesvelgr's brood - which has always voiced distaste for the Dragonsong War but fought back against Ishgardians when necessary, and they allied with Ishgard in that battle.
And the Warriors of Darkness/an Ascian, who had reasons for grabbing the Eyes to obtain a lot of power.

Hence why the nasty popsicle appeared at the end, the WoD's grabbed it because they kinda wanted to cause utter chaos here, and that source of Aether is too big to pass up on.

... The thought of the Warriors of Darkness skyfishing for the nasty Eyesicle is... hilarious.

Even if we had let Estinien die the eyes would have still been there. There is no evidence that they would suddenly destroy themselves if the wearer is death. I mean the eye of Ratatoskr was still there even after her death and after the death of the first dragoon. So we would have had to deal with them either way. I dont know how to seal them effectively and it looked like it was quite deep, so I am more annoyed that the WoD somehow were able to find the eyes..(and if they are not destroyed after such a fall what can even destroy them?) But maybe we should really just start to listen to ourself..and trust that we would not have been overcome by the eyes.

After the whole fight they should have been quite exhausted so maybe they will give the Griffin some strength but not too much?

I am still on the side of Hydaelyn. Even the WoD said that it was Zodiark that started to get stronger and stronger and forced her to banish him. Since they were on the side of the Ascians they would have told us something different if that was not the "truth". Maybe she herself did not know that too much Light would cause the end of a world? (And I am still baffled how too much Light can even exists with humankind..)And maybe after she noticed it, she was already to weak to do something herself? I mean she needed Minfilia to talk to us so she was in a really bad situation. Lets not forget that the ones that want to kill her thus creating an imbalance too are the black Ascians..so siding with them would be bad too. (And would probably mean the end of all life) Maybe we might listen to some of the things that the white Ascians has to say but the other Ascians are clearly not right. We (WoD+WoL) gave up a crystal of Light to finally give her back some of her power and she immediately started to help the WoD's and it seems that we dont necessarily need someone bad to stop the Light.

Don't be so hasty. As SE is wont to do they left an opening for her return.

For me the whole Warriors of Darkness plot just felt like a real letdown. And great, Nidhogg's eyes are back!

    ...Because that's what anyone wanted.

She'll be back, alright. After absorbing the excess light in the 1st's world she'll be back and more powerful than ever; she won't need a linkpearl to speak to you now ... it'll be direct telepathy!

The Eyes were bound to show up.

Since there are parallel worlds could it mean that the same major events happened in the WoDs world, too?

Elidibus, certainly. Poor Griffin's going to be all "How do I shot eyes" until he bumbles into the Omega Weapon.

Or even worse, he ends up pulling an Ultra Magnus and the eyes end up being Nero tol Scheva's hands.
