Yeah the new gear for casters at least for BLM is crap. I share the sentiment of the Shire Rod being the only decent thing here.

Everything is terrible. I don't even know where to begin trying to optimize spellspeed with this itemization. Perhaps it's time to focus crit >.> Who is in charge of itemization? They did a horrible job.

I think focusing completely on SS is going to be BiS but Crit rate is going to be abysmally low.
Shire Rod and 2 Scripture rings definitely are BiS but those are the only pieces that will have crit on them.
All of the other left side gear has a SS piece but it's ALWAYS the secondary stat except on the head piece(meaning, it's value is lower than the maximum sps on the gear piece = have to meld more sps instead of crit and it means you get more useless det)
The choker necklace and earring also have a SS piece, overall the accuracy seems to be very high. If we're lucky it'll be slightly above A12. If we're unlucky it'll be way under or way above A12S cap.
Crit rate is going to be non existent. I assume somewhere around the 600's, maybe lower. SS is on every piece but on every piece it's the secondary stat except for the obvious BiS pieces that are weapon and scripture ring and the scripture head and scripture bracelet.
Sad days lie ahead.
The crafted gear isn't bad once it's melded, SS could be higher without vit melds too.

blm on this patch got realy fucked imo, in sophia smn is obviously better, a9s i think smn better because of the number of banes you can do,
on final boss dots keep tiking during time freeze and smn can refresh his dots before joining the add dps check
How do they screw up this badly? They made the Alexander Rod worse than the Augmented Shire Rod feels insulting to add a weapon to the most difficult fight we get in this tier and make it a downgrade.Okay so this isn't funny anymore.
The only Crit/SPS pieces are the Shire rod, which is Bis. Not Raid weapon is Bis but a scripture weapon. Glorious. And the scripture ring is Crit SS.
Thats it.
And to follow this up, 3 out of 4 Alexander accessories are DET CRIT. THREE OUT OF FOUR HAVE THE SAME STATS!?!?!?!?!? So I'd rather kill myself now than get a """"BiS""""" set this patch.
BiS probably: http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/VNJ2

Pretty much what I'm gonna aim for except I'm gonna take 2 Scripture rings and not an Alexandrian. Might change depending on A12S accuracy cap though.BiS probably: http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/VNJ2
Speaking of that, has anyone heard something about that yet? SSS dummies are updated with accuracy caps now and apparently A11S is already downed too.
Heard of someone missing A12S with 640 acc, can't confirm though. I'll probably test on dummies when I have time.Pretty much what I'm gonna aim for except I'm gonna take 2 Scripture rings and not an Alexandrian. Might change depending on A12S accuracy cap though.

And herein is the main problem with itemization- especially for black mages. We RELY on SS, its absolutely a necessity that cannot be replaced or ignored. It takes priority over every other stat, whenever possible, on every piece of gear (accuracy doesn't count). Until (if) they finally add more unique secondary stats, or some form alternate progression paths- This is essentially all we can ever look forward too every patch. Hoping and praying we get spell speed on basically everything, or look at the gear and go "Oh look, it looks perfect... for a SMN"
