Um...a lot of ppl's first name is mindless as well, for one reason or another. Should that be removed too, then?
For all the stupid names, first and last as well, I think there's a relatively equal amount of normal (dare I say, even creative/original) ones. Remove the surnames and there's gonna be a myriad of XYbazillion69 type of ppl running around. I rather bear with the silliness and mass of text in condensed areas, personally.
im so totally against removal of this.
I just wish i made another mule called: Ben Dover.... >.<
I used to be Noomy...then i took shiva's Hail Storm to my knee...
-falls over chair laughing- You seriously should create that character and put "Woodworking" as his chosen class.
Surnames can stay: for those against it, think on the bright side; your fingers get exercise from typing those less-than-30-characters names into the chatlog!
Surenames should just be made optional. They make sending a /tell more tedious then it should be. Sence some people actualy like them that is why i say make them optional not required.
Let me just answer the original question with a resounding NO!
I'm very, very happy FFXIV went with surnames. You can only make so many variations with a single-name before it just starts getting ridiculous. I've seen names in other games that were essentially just a massive string of vowels, and trying to find a reasonable name that isn't taken is atrociously difficult. Surnames allow you to basically have whatever name you want. The end result is a world populated by people with more reasonable names (at least that's the case on Besaid, the roleplaying server).
