    Just hit 50, what now?

I know this might seem like a silly question considering this is an mmo, really it's up to the player to determine what to do next, but I guess the class quests to get my white mage to level 50 was my main goal to grind for. Now that I got it I'm wondering if there is level 50 content I should be trying out, or should I just continue the main story quest?

I just want to make sure I'm not missing out on anything that I could be doing right now.

There's multiple side quests that get you optional dungeons, you'll need all the dungeons though to get access to lv 50 roulette which is a way to get tomb stones and to lv jobs to lv 60

I'd continue with the main story, as it unlocks a lot of things. At least finish up through 2.0s initial storyline if you have not already (you will know you are done when you get the World's Longest Creditstm).

The MSQ continues at 50 for a while (added in patches 2.1-2.55). These quests reward nice gear and exp, but you can only gain exp past 50 if you have purchased and installed Heavensward. Getting this exp is not necessary to get to 60, but if you plan on playing to 60 I'd go ahead and get Heavensward now as it is a nice boost. You will need to finish all of these quests in order to access any Heavensward content.

I would also rank up in your GC until you reach 2nd Lt, as the housing system is locked behind that rank. Personal apartments are being added this patch, if you want to purchase one you will need to be that rank.

As for whm, if you have not already done so make getting your cross class abilities from ARN and THM a priority. In particular level THM to 26 for swiftcast. At 50+ swiftcast it vital to be able to raise people in combat as waiting out raise's cast time is very risky and might get someone else (or you) killed.

    Have fun with whm!

There's a whole lot of optional content at 50 (since that had been level cap for a long time until the expansion came out). As Naria mentioned, you'll want to complete at least up through the end of the 2.0 storyline (culminating in the quest "The Ultimate Weapon") because that one unlocks all that optional level 50 content.

1st thing: complete your level 50 job quest
2nd thing: complete the MSQ up through The Ultimate Weapon

after that, you have quite a few viable choices:

Some people like to keep moving ahead through the next part of the Main Scenario right away. There's roughly another hundred or so MSQ at level 50 that were added in the 2.1 - 2.55 patches. If your goal is to get to Heavensward as soon as possible, this should be high on your priority list as these quests are a prerequisite to entering Ishgard and the Heavensward content.

There's also a variety of Side Story Quests you can undertake at this point if you think it's a good time for a bit of a break from the main scenario.

There's optional dungeons and raids as well. (Can't find a page that just lists these ones specifically, but you can look into all the stuff listed as level 50 in this link.)

Some players also choose this as a good point at which to go back and level up other classes/jobs they're interested in, particularly if they were focusing rather heavily on just one so far.

Since most players will want to do at least a bit of each of those, it's mostly just a matter of preference as to the order you do them in.

I appreciate the detailed answer + class advice! I'll be sure to level up my THM especially.

Thanks for the answer. I've already purchased Heavensward so I think I'll just keep progressing through the MSQ. I was wondering if I needed to slow down and do those dungeons and raids at 50. The first comment mentioned tombstones being acquired through roulette and such which I'm guessing is used to purchase end game gear?

Tomestones (sry, pet peeve of mine, it is a common mistake) come in a couple different varieties: Tomestones of Poetics, Lore and Scripture. Tomestones of Poetics are used to purchase level 50 i120 Ironworks gear, some crafting items, items for the ARR and Heavensward relics and a few minions. This gear can be upgraded to i130 using lvl50 raid drops or more poetics, and will last you until about lvl 55. As soon as you start doing level 50 content, it will start rewarding you with them, and you can get a bonus amount of them once a day doing the level 50 roulette. You will want to have the level 50 roulette unlocked at some point (you need to complete all ARR dungeons to do so) as poetics do have some limited use at 60 and it is good exp if you are leveling an alt class past 50. That said, it is not necessary at the moment. 50 plus the MSQ will reward you with appropriate gear to continue progressing; this continues in Heavensward. It is not really worth stopping to farm up and upgrade an Ironworks set unless you feel like it. Lore and Scripture tomes are used and obtained at level 60.

Completing the raids The Crystal Tower and The Binding Coil of Bahamut will get you some nice story and a bit of exp and maybe some gear. The Crystal Tower raids are 24 man raids that can easily be completed at 50 through the DF (though I'd queue on the weekends). Be aware that even if you are new the alliance won't slow down for you in the Tower. We've been running this thing for years and cheese most of the mechanics. Anyone new is just going to get dragged along for the ride. If you want explanations I'd look up a guide before entering.

Pretty much no one does Coil (called Turns 1-13 or T1-13) outside of level 60 unsynced parties, as some of these raids will still wipe your party at 60 if everyone is not paying attention (which happens a depressing amount in T9).

There are also Hard and Extreme mode trials at 50. You can ignore the extremes--most people do these unsynced at 60 to farm mounts and glamour gear, but you will have to defeat the hard mode primals in order to do patch 2.5's story and get to Heavensward. Some of these are part of the MSQ but Ifrit, Garuda, and Titan HM are not so you will have to pick the quests for these up at the Waking Sands. There is also a trials roulette and there are a few trials unlocked from side quests needed to unlock this, but I don't believe you need to do that to start Heavensward.

It may get done a bit more for a while, considering that the new patch's main scenario quests separate out dialog according to whether you have or have not completed Coil. A lot of players will want to see the coil version, so will be running it in advance of those quests. So this may actually be a pretty good time for anyone wanting to try out coil to be able to get a group together for it. (Wouldn't affect concerns over difficulty and the need to pay attention, of course, but at least finding groups to work on it with should be easier.)

Just a quick addendum: Coil, Crystal Tower and the ARR Extremes all ended up being relevant to patch 3.4's MSQ, although only Coil progress effected the dialogue. So you might want to complete those before starting 3.4's storyline.
