Yoshi-P has already confirmed in the Gamescom interview that the WoD will play a big part in the new expansion, so I am going to guess that this is what is going to happen:

1. WoL and friends find or are ambushed by WoD.
2. WoD Warrior will bind the WoL and the friends of the WoL will fight with the WoD.
3. WoL and friends start to lose and a ally will show up that will change the tide.
4. WoD will flee.

or we do take out these 5 WoD and another group of WoD will show up in 4.0, but seeing how SE is using the iconic FFXIV character, I reckon they will stay for a while.

In one of the more recent interviews Yoshi has said that this patch will conclude the WoD story for now (until 4.0) and that it will give some rather huge revelations regarding the nature of Hydaelyn and Zodiark. The trailer makes it plain that the WoDs are going to reveal their mission and ask us to join them as well. I'm fairly certain the WoDs aren't our enemies; they're here to open our eyes to something.

A Godslaying Adventurer standing around doing nothing while their friends engage an enemy right in front of them breaks muh immersion.

To be fair the Scions are much more powerful than your are. They just simply don't have the echo, so can't safely fight primals.
And besides:

Buuuuut if each individual Warrior of Darkness is on par with ourselves...

They are all god slaying adventurers. We did see them 5 man Ravana.
