If they do hold it off until 4.0 they may also implement other "perks" for other classes, because if you think about it, it will likely be a quest unlock - so maybe do a flavor/glamor thing for all classes with a quest...

SE said they would release the first Egi glamour in patch 3.4, it was a vague statement of course and there's no telling what that really means!...
They haven't mentioned anything about pet glamours and it would have been showcased in the trailer, all I saw there was a black Carbuncle but that's probably the evil guy's summon and not an Egi glamour, which would be cheap anyway!...
In any case all I can hope for is that when they release pet glamours they are worth the effort and not some rubbish I wouldn't want to use!...
In fact what I'd expect from Egi glamours would be smaller versions of the Primals themselves, like the Garuda that was used by players in XI, I never played that game but I saw a picture about it and that looks like the right way summons should!...![]()
That black carbuncle is actually Alphinaud's. He has been working on modifying his Arcanist arts. In the first time we see him fight, he uses an emerald carbuncle. Then, later before the Vault, he has mastered Summon III: ruby carbuncle. Finally, in Azys Lla, when you face off against Legatus Regula van Hydrus, he has combined the strongest aspects of the topaz and ruby carbuncles to create the "new carbuncle" he hinted at while spending time with Matoya, the powerful obsidian carbuncle.
Something... something... edginess... shadows... wait... I'm supposed to be a paragon of love and justice!
It's a nice idea but what you're missing is that the pet glamour system isn't just the devs being nice to show special favour to SMNs. The system is being developed to make up for the fact that they cut new pets from the job entirely. The other jobs don't need any special systems like this to make up for things they're missing because, as far as we know, they haven't had any of their core functionality cut out.
Of all the jobs in this game the longest running complaint has been that Summoners are not true to the series due to their extremely limited number of summons and very little interaction with them. The pet glamour system is an attempt to make up for that because the devs didn't want to rework the job to make new pets fit. Expanding the feature to include things for all jobs misses the point of why it's being added and would only serve to delay the feature even more than it already has been.
This is so true, and it sucks. The job wears the skin of a Summoner, but it isn't a summoner. Maybe if they had made the pet play a bigger role in the overall Dps of the job, then maybe it would be considered a summoner. They decided to go the casual friendly, but I digress. Hopefully, they're just haven't finalized it yet, and waiting till the very last second to show it off.
It's not inconceivable that they could rework Summoner, or call it something else, and introduce a more conceptually true "Summoner" later on. They've used the excuse "We translated the Ancient Allagan Text Wrong" in-game several times before. Usually to explain away naming conflicts between English and Japanese, but still, there's a precedent for such a thing.I doubt that. They've already established what a Summoner is within the FFXIV world both in the lore and the gameplay. As far as FFXIV is concerned, this IS a "true Summoner".
There's nothing wrong with how Summoner plays or how it was implemented, it's just different than what was initially expected. I think it's time to just accept it for what it is.
