Good spot, maybe Phlegethon was of the nation that worshipped Sophia. He did lead a rebellion after all. LORE!

Probably already covered, because I can't be the only one who saw this, but I'm mostly interested in their terminology of her strict use of Order and equilibrium as being "gilded chains."

Meaning that, as I've been proposing, Chaos in XIV is associated with independence and freedom.

Too much of one is bad, balance is good.

    Two points to make from this;
    1. It sounds like he was a hero to the people, not a primals thrall... I would assume he rebelled in a more central location, rather than the empires latest domain, so I'm doubtful he had any relation to Sophia or the people who worshiped her. Entirely possible he was from Meracydia anyway, but I'm left wondering how we have the peoples accounts of him were that the case...
    2. He was altered... People have been speculating for a while that Sephirots growth might have been harnessed to make the Crystal Tower bosses larger, well... I think this might be further proof... The adds in the Sophia fight might well be her thralls, but I think the resemblance to Phlegethon is more to do with the experimentation that led to the augmentations we see in Crystal Towers bosses...
Those are effectively Acheron prototypes in Containment Bay P1T6, would be my guess...
Your explanation has one big flaw, those adds are on the trial of Sophia are elezens and roegardyns. Races of we know perfecly were not part of the allagan empire, that was mostly habited by hyurs.

The preview of Sophia confirmed this, a deity of meracidya worshiped by a multi-race nation

You can make reused assets but not of this kind. It's the same issue we had with the catheral on azys'la, were at first was said to be a used assets but they had to retract and make a good explanation.

Also the archerons we saw on ST were seem to be clones of plegheton, make sence taht the allagans copied his gear for the clones too.
What if he was a hero of the poeple? Maybe he wanted to free his people from the allagan subjugation, has nothing to do to who he worshiped. Besides we know that primals/eikons 's is active no passive.
His hole transformation that he suffered has nothing to with what we are talking about really.

The adds on the trial of sophia are clearly not allagan, so why then are using the same gear that plegethon used?

Maybe the Meracydians made very cool gear and the Allagans decided to use those.

We know that the Allagans like using Meracydian stuff from their Architecture and when they defeated the Meracydian dragons there was even a fad of them speaking in dragon-speech and using dragon motif in fashion/ iconography.

It would not surprise me Phlegethon was the general to lead an assault that lead to the defeat of Sophia's nation and to commemorate the victory he's using their armor.

    Seems highly possible too.

My interpretation was that the Goddess arose because of the multi-ethnic, disparate cultures trying to live in one nation. Rather than go to war with one another, they conflated their faiths into a vague being - The Goddess - who was the source of harmony (i.e. their nation's) and an arbiter of justice. When cultural disputes came about, the laws of Her faith would see the balance meted out fairly.

Without Her law as a standard, you would have different cultures with different values in the same situation. Self-interest would threaten the stability of the nation, and yet the only way to really solve the prisoner's dilemma in that case would be to bind their actions to their core beliefs: their faith. You might not get to have self-interest, or promote your culture's values at the cost of others, but the nation stands; thus, gilded chains of harmony.

An Eye for an Eye. Never Forget a debt. There are all sorts of way the drive towards "justice" could come off as arbitrary especially in with the Allag long gone. We just got through the Dragonsong war and whether the Sins of the Father should be the crime of the child.

The "Goddess," as she was simply known, graced the souls of her worshipers with perfect equilibrium, binding their disparate societies in gilded chains of harmony.
Anyone else getting a serious "Tempering" vibe off of this? Like the only reason that this hugely racially varied society flourished at all is because Sophia MADE them get along?
