or they could add a Party Finder filtering option (as suggested in an older thread) so people who didn't clear the fight prior cannot join farm parties, etc.

Well I see the problem right here.
Question: Does this system allow people with 0 experience que?
Answer: It sure does!
So in conclusion why would anyone ever expect people to know anything in a system that allows it with no systems in place to discourage use in such a way?
I'll never understand the duty finder mentality... you should sign up and hope for the best and expect the worst.

over here in the JP servers, it's common courtesy to enter any duty (be it dungeon or trial or raid finder) with a good idea of the gimmicks of the fight. you're expected to know what to do or they will find out, point you out and explain to you how it goes, if you don't learn or ignore their strategy/macros you get could get kicked off the duty for it or if they're nice enough (for EX trials), they won't raise you and leave you dead while they 7-man it.
I would never expect someone to watch a vid before they've experienced the fight for the first time. I find it really sad that you are not allowed to experience first without being expected to have in depth knowledge about the whole fight in case you slow down someone else.

This isn't Antitower or Sohr Khai we're talking about. This is an extreme primal trial with corresponding rewards. They don't even add the most current ones to the duty finder precisely because they are so challenging.I would never expect someone to watch a vid before they've experienced the fight for the first time. I find it really sad that you are not allowed to experience first without being expected to have in depth knowledge about the whole fight in case you slow down someone else.
You have to go out of your way to unlock extreme trials, it's not like you just stumble across them. They're not part of main scenario, they're not mandatory, they are completely optional. They also come with attractive or lucrative rewards - Expanse Baleens on my server are going for roughly 5 million per.
Are there people who jump into duty finder for extreme primals without ever looking up a video? Absolutely.
Should they expect to clear, especially if they've entered the duty with seven other like minded people? Absolutely not.
What I'm saying is that it's not the best use of everyone's time to go in completely blind. Best case scenario, you get carried by a group of experienced players while you spend most of your time dead on the floor. Worst case scenario, you spend sixty minutes wiping repeatedly and learning nothing because you don't associate the "Hysteria" status and vulnerability debuff with the Dragon's Gaze cast - not to mention the specifics of dozens of other mechanics.
Then people who get their carry via DF are free to enter farm parties on their server, and still have no idea what they're doing when they enter the duty.

having only played in masamune, i do expect people to have an idea of the fight when i enter duty (it's something you pickup from the tough environment you were brought up in) but i don't get upset if there's someone completely new, you will always have that 1 guy who is oblivious to everything and if anything they're the ones who bring colour to the otherwise bland runs you would get over here. the only exception is when there's a new patch and the content is less than a week old - everyone's new and people are 300% more patient

DF = You get what you get and you don't have a fit. Hope for the best, expect the worst. I will stay for the entire instance timer unless there is 0 progression going on.
PF = Join one where your experience level matches the PF requirements stated or start your own.
I never expect anyone else to watch a video or know the instance unless the PF requirements say so. I do expect level 60 people to know their jobs and what most of their buttons do.

You're not being expected to have 'in depth' knowledge about a whole fight, you're expected to do a little bit of homework so you don't waist 7 other people's time. They're there to beat a boss, not to enable you to have the pleasure of 'experiencing the fight' cold.I would never expect someone to watch a vid before they've experienced the fight for the first time. Just because you CAN queue on DF with zero knowledge of the fight doesn't mean you aren't a jerk for doing so, nor does it mean that you won't be called out on it.

In depth knowledge = "a little homework" in Thordan's case, so...yeah.You're not being expected to have 'in depth' knowledge about a whole fight, you're expected to do a little bit of homework so you don't waist 7 other people's time. They're there to beat a boss, not to enable you to have the pleasure of 'experiencing the fight' cold.
