Someone might want to be a business tycoon? Were supply not so limited, and it was easily doable on one character, I'd be incline to buy additional small houses to turn them into "shops"... As it is, I have a Free Company "guild" house, a private "office" room, and a personal "home" house... Can't go buy an extra small house to convert it into a restaurant, with a café theme and retainers selling decent food outside... Can't make a weapon shop with the same idea, mostly because there is like zero furniture that facilitate that, but you get the idea...
Hope they finally fix supply with apartments... I'd like it if they could finally start work on giving us more item space to work with, and generally just improving features... Having a "Like" system would be nice, just so we can easily find well furnished open rooms, might bring people into the housing areas more to look around... Going back to the whole business tycoon idea though... I'd really like it if we could effectively have a pay to enter system, or pay for privileges... So you can make a café, and people can pay X amount and you get access to use things like the food furniture... Could let players make things like the old school Inns, play 3,000G and you can log out in this bed for bonus rested EXP! Features like that could make Housing really interesting, IMO...
It does make it more fair to all players. Especially when gameplay features are housing dependent.
As for the idea of making houses into storefronts...that's not something the system really supports.
It didn't support sharing estates either, until it did... My point was it's something they could work on, to make housing in general more interesting... For the longest time though, they've been fighting a losing battle to meet demand... Hopefully apartments can fix that and they can instead start work on adding more interesting features that everyone can enjoy...
Give us retainers indoors, and I'd be very tempted to turn my apartment (assuming I even get one) into a café... Open access to everyone, have my retainer selling food, Orchestrion playing appropriate music (T9 theme?), greeting message advertising the fact it's a café... Done... All I'd need is for them to rework the way placed retainers and the market board function slightly, and people might even stop by to purchase items... Been a long time since I've made that suggestion though, not sure I remember the ins and outs of how I'd replicate the old market wards... The idea basically amounted to people getting a discount if they bought directly from your retainer, while you get no market board tax deduction, with the market board indicating where your retainer is stationed, if they are at all... Assuming there is a market board in the lobby area, that could work quite nicely... Biggest issue was always that housing was for the few, but apartments could reverse that...

Sounds like trying to turn the game into something it not, How many actually people visit RP shops (w/e call them) anyways? Not trying to be mean just interested in knowing.Someone might want to be a business tycoon? As a player with an alt, having 1 house per account that is shared with each character just makes more sense (I mean you can already share with people on your friends list, why not characters on the same account?). I'm on a small server, I can easily earn the gil to buy another house for that alt if I wanted to (there are open plots still on Coeurl last I checked). I don't want to though. It's pointless for me to own two, and it's better and more fair for someone else to get that plot rather than have 1 account with multiple characters owning personal houses/plots.
I actually wish the apartments were more like the mog houses in FFXI. Entirely instanced, and EVERY character had one. But the limited amount of plots we have for housing and limited amount of apartments does not help anyone on large servers.

I heard that the announcement may have been poorly translated and it was one apartment block per WARD instead of just per housing area.
Anyone else hear this?
there is a post or two in this topic saying that I think. to behonest it mmakes sense. the appartment blocks appear to be a special case free company house template that includes the same 512 chamber limit as FC personal chambers with a single location (similar to a large mansion) serving as the lobby. I suspect they have created what amount to 'ghost' free companies that exist purely to allow players to obtain an appartment. Given that they cost 500,000 gil, they will need to be larger than personal chambers.
But if you compare the functionality of the apartments to that of a Large FC mansion with the 512 member limit, the new apartment blocks function in exactly the sameway, which suggests that they are re-using part of the FC housing system to make this happen.

Well, at least now you can report players "looking to make a huge profit"...as long as they do that in game...which they won't. So yeah, best to get the day off. /comfortSo that leaves me two choices, somehow get the patch day off and get lucky and net an apartment within the first 20 minutes of servers coming up, or pay the extorted prices when I get home from players looking to make a huge profit off the fact SE decided to limit the amount of apartments to a ridiculously low number.
Great.
Because people may have multiple ideas for housing set-ups depending on the character.
The whole housing system is horribly limited as it is. They need to actually improve it, instead of trying to fix things by making other parts of it worse.
