Do not make lalafell, miqote, roegadyn, hyur and aura characters. Thats a good start to get an attractive character.

I can only speak as a roe, but the options are a tad limited if you're going for attractive. A lot of the faces just seem off to me (though I've seen roes that can pull them off quite well, just they're not my jam), and most of the hairstyles either look weird or you run into hella clipping issues, especially on long hair, so the racial hairs seem to work the best.

Not all people like *insert race name here*. It's about people's taste.
Beauty is completely subjective. Of course there's always the eye to the beholder and there can be a common belief of what beauty should be. Many cultures have their own little niche's of what they think is beautiful. It's interesting to see what one area will think is pretty then shown to another area and the opinion will be completely different.
I know this game doesn't give as many character creator options as some other games do but you can still see the above preferences when playing. I believe there's more to beauty than just creating a character with looks that you perceive as pretty. Clothing and accessories play a big part as well as hairstyles.
I have two characters I regularly play and I do post their pictures. Dragon Lily is an elezen and is very beautiful to me because she has an elegance and more woman look. As well as the way I designed her I wanted to leave options open to be able to change her up as I see fit. Mostly tho I stick to the same color palette for her hair and a few hairstyles. I don't have her stats at the moment but it's not hard to tell what face she is.
Now Pooky is a miqote and I wanted something completely different with her. I wanted her to stand out and still look good. I went with a color palette that plays on complimenting color contrast. But because of that not everyone likes the way she looks because its oddball. But I think that's her greatest piece of beauty.
So that's my 2 cents on this topic.
All right well I'll be ~diverse~
I think it's no secret I find my own character attractive so he's first:
X,Y is from Bottom Left = 0,0 because that's what I assume.
Race: Keeper of the Moon, Skin Tone: (5,2), Hairstyle: 12, Hair Color: (6,12), Hair Highlights: Yes (22,0), Face: 4, Jaw Type: 1, Eye Shape: 6, Eye Color (0,17), Odd Eyes Yes Right: (17,4); Eyebrow Type: 2, Nose Type: 6, Mouth Type: 4, Lip Color: Dark (7,7)
I like darker skin and angular features. I knew I'd stick out immediately in this pale sea...not that it's a bad thing obviously I'm just saying. Lots of pale characters here. I mean, look at my Au Ra:
Race: Xaela, Skin Tone: (0,8), Hairstyle: 5, Hair Color: (0,23), Hair Highlights: No, Face: 2, Jaw Type: 1, Eye Shape: 4, Eye Color (0, 23), Odd Eyes: No; Limbal Rings: Yes, both (1, 11), Eyebrow Type: 2, Nose Type: 4, Mouth Type: 1, Lip Color: Light (0,10)
For her I was trying to make her albino. Still not sure if an albino Xaela would have dark or light scales?
Anyway everyone apparently hates that face type but honestly it's the cutest one. Everyone uses...that one. You know the one. I think that one's boring.

Clearly, the best Final Fantasy character is Locke Cole.
Glamour is TRUE ENDGAME

Derio, this thread is meant to start a discussion about what makes a character attractive. There is no need to justify the traits you selected. As you said, your character is good enough for you then that's all that matters. However, that does not answer the question whether people find certain traits more attractive than others.
So far out of all the posts all I've been able to determine is that a lot of FFXIV players don't follow instructions and that they like glasses.
Oh, sorry for the confusion, AskaRay. I assumed the X, Y coordinates started at 1, 1. If others have been assuming 0, 0 I'll correct Boo's information accordingly.
Hmm... I feel an albino Au Ra would have light scales. I only say this because all the albino reptile and fish I've ever seen are white. However, this is nothing saying an albino xaelo has to have white scales. So go with what feels right. For her I was trying to make her albino. Still not sure if an albino Xaela would have dark or light scales?

I know what you mean about "the one face type." I was hoping to find out if it really was true but I'm starting to despair.
Given that only three participants have supplied their traits, I think I asked for too much. Perhaps it would just be easier to keep the topic in the tone of ChrisBabaganoosh, Pooky_Bear, and you, in the sense of just having folks post their characters, and express their thoughts about beauty.

The problem is that if people are thinking their character is attractive/unique whatever, then it is entirely in their best interest NOT to share their character data, for less imitations. The more of something there is the less desirable/attractive it will become. I keep my character data under lock and key for everyone of my alts.So far out of all the posts all I've been able to determine is that a lot of FFXIV players don't follow instructions and that they like glasses.

But the counter of that is players like knowing what looks good in the game. Skin tone in particular seems to differ from what you see in the creation process. The problem is that if people are thinking their character is attractive/unique whatever, then it is entirely in their best interest NOT to share their character data, for less imitations. Also, not to sound creepy, if I wanted to look like a particular character, I could do so easily by simply taking a screenshot then playing around in the character creation screen. It's not like there are twenty different chins and noses to choose from. It really is an illusion that your character can be kept unique simply by not sharing your trait data. However, I would never do that because... well, it would be wrong. Characters are a person's property and we often react to them as an extension of the Self. Intentional copying you would be like stealing a part of you. Not going to do that to you. No how. No way.
Tell you what... given that apparently folks are uncomfortable providing specifics, let's all just talk in generalities about what we find attractive and what we think about when creating an attractive character.
Restarting thread. "What Makes An Attractive Character Attractive?" Take Two. *CLACK*
