PotD right now, floors 11-20. I am mnk, got a mch and whm x 2 with me. At floor 15 I've stopped attacking anything that's not a morbol or a koloko. The push-away fest is deep within these guys... One of the whms has void ark/lore gear, the other has a sprout and acolyte's. The mch is glamoured with Snow's jacket (or maybe wearing it, idk, can't see gear inside PotD) and apparently is on my server (just got cleared and he is standing next to me in the transference hall).

Seriously, I could not hit a single mob, both whms were spamming Fluid Aura (has SE shortened the recast of this?) and the mch also pushed away a few, so not a chance. Also they were killing EVERYTHING. So yeah, from floor 15 onwards I just followed them, didn't engage unless it was a morlbol or koloko (those can't be pushed away harhar) and started this post. Not fun at all this run.

It's not a cone, it's a straight line, and you being a caster doesn't make it any more complicated as you want it to be.
And every single time I was targeted by it I moved to the side and was hit anyway. Your method does not work.

    Works for everyone else >_>
It's how the mechanic works, not just my method! Wasn't the only one telling you this! If it doesn't work for you when it should, then blame the lag or anything else; maybe change to legacy control? I know strifing makes movement when dodging quiet dificult, and by switching to legacy you would be running instead.

I question how avoidable it is at casting range given cones get wider the further out they go.
There's no DPS bonus for ranged classes in this game, so you don't have to stand on Mars to DPS the boss. You can literally just stand behind him and move accordingly. When in doubt, just run through his legs and stand behind him. Problem solved >_>

Yeah, out of all the bosses in the game... If I had to pick one to cast at from melee range? That one would be one of the last.

Here's the thing. I don't seem to have a problem dodging anywhere else. Unless there's ice on the floor, things sometimes get weird with ice. I'm also prone to facepalm at DPS who wind up with damage down debuffs during the adds phase of Final Steps (-_-), but this is kind of getting away from the point at hand. There are healers that just don't cleanse debuffs. I've seen WHM who have cast Regen to try and deal with a generic poison tick instead of casting Esuna and being done with it. And I'm not the only person who notices this, I've seen healers criticizing other healers over this sort of thing. And no matter how good someone may be at dodging, sometimes things go wrong.

If you're referring to his swings, the double handed one is really the only one you should run away from. Other than that, I see no issues with standing in melee range for this boss.

Thank you for sharing that. I haven't run the lv 60 SCH quest myself, but I've heard someone talk about how much of a nightmare it was. Combining the need to cleanse debuffs in it with another discussion earlier in the day may provide some insight as to why it was so hard for him. XD

*cough* Past trauma of accidentally elusive jumping into the swing as DRG one time. There are times in which the only thing you can do is think "well, that's not a good thing" as you die before the thought can even be finished. I will happily DPS that boss from Mars if I can. I've also tanked that guy. I'm very happy to not be in melee range. So happy. *rocks steadily*
