I mean, I've played since Dec 2013 and I had no idea that when you abbreviated it to DR that it was diminishing returns. Stun resistant. Stun lock. Yes diminishing returns but I have never seen someone use DR that way, especially for Ifrit HM which is where I first saw that as being important.

I had to go back on memory road with some friend during 1.0 days where we started using diminishing returns as an abbreviation for Ifrit. Someone mentioned it was back during the 1.18 and 1.23 patch reforms. I looked back and it seems that during 1.21, March of 2012, they changed how debuffs worked and SE tried to use "CC tactics" as a way to refer to diminishing returns but it fell short due to who is going to know what "CCT" stands for? CC is common but DR has been more so used due to WoW players since...idk...2004-2005? Prior to that, games didn't have a better reference to the built up resistance to magic spells, iirc games before this time had baseline thresholds of magic accuracy needed to even consider using enfeebling spells on a monster, thus as long as you met this accuracy threshold you could infinitely enfeeble a monster, which led to the tactic of "solo kiting" or "kiting" in general (though for all intents and purposes, kiting has various meanings, foremost being a way to sustain the monster while the party resets from a wipe, another, as with Despot in FF11, would be to kill the monster with the least amount of people for specific drops.)

It is kind of weird that DR, especially in the case of the PT I was in with that DRG and for the matter of the forum replies here, does not hold the same notoriety as AFK or BRB. Though those terms have been around much longer than DR and the scope of their use goes beyond just MMO games, so I digress in this assumption because not everyone has been playing MMO's for over a decade and have seen almost every abbreviation correlating to this genre of gaming.

I have seen stun resist used, or diminishing returns spelled out, but never the abbreviation DR. I figured out what you meant from context, but didn't know the words themselves until you posted. Spelling it out might be easier (not all people realize that things become immune to stun, as you saw).

I may have replied with a typed out response for that DRG if his comment of "wtf is DR?" was a bit more, not sure how to phrase this but I want to use the term intelligible(?). Like, "I'm sorry, but what does DR stand for?" than I would definitely have taken the time to type the $4 word of "Diminishing Returns: Built up resistance to Stun overtime." But if he honestly doesn't have the time and puts together a sentence like "wtf is DR?" than I think I am more so in my own right to hold my tongue and stay silent.

I did omit this fact from my original post for the sake of character limit and the fact that I was posting from my phone (no edits there), but I might as well say it now to substantiate my rebuttal here, this DRG had more than enough time to reply properly to my comment. He was all left side augmented lore and right side was 4/5 augmented. This should mean he would put out impressive DPS, to my dismay, all he did was auto-attack, I didn't notice at first until I realized he was doing 400 dps average, even when wiping to the first boss of Hullbreaker Hard he refused to use skills. I opted to take the penalty, as I should have because I disagreed with how the party was going. Plus, having an alt that needed to clear roulettes would eat away at my penalty and I think almost everyone here would have left if they saw a decked out frontline DPS put no effort in their job.

Well, to be fair, the general performance of the alliance was not exactly great as well and unless you play healer yourself you'd probably not pay attention to what they are doing.
Or even those that did, like me, may have just not been very..kick-happy. I don't think I ever initiated a kick except for people not returning from dc's after a long time ^^°

When we got to Ozma, we already had less than 30 minutes left, but at Ozma wipes had more to do with failed mechanics than lack of healing although ofc great healers have no trouble healing/shielding through that and could have saved a run that went wrong on many levels

His "unintelligible" reply was a more efficient way to say same thing. Maybe he didn't have a keyboard. Refusing to answer question because it used a compacted structure is petty and small minded.

Had a Ramuh HM on Trial Roul earlier...

Reminds me one the one I had yesterday too. I had never gotten Ramuh in Roulette before, but there is a first time for everything, right?

The very first tether appears on me (Ninja) and another DPS (Bard), who is a sprout.
The bard stop moving completely. (But he didn't have terror). I don't know if he thought any movement would cause damage OR if that was his signal to me that "I'll you get the lightning orbs".

So I run around trying to find orbs. But whenever one would appear, a DPS or healer would take it! Why??

So, I spent basically the ENTIRE run with a lightning tether.

A second add spawns. I'm not sure if second add needs to be killed to avoid wipe. Only 1 other DPS is attacking it. I don't know how much damage I will take if I attack, but the add won't die so I think "Screw it." and begin attacking the add.

Surprisingly, the damage from attacking with lightning tether wasn't too bad. And it gave the healer who were stealing my orbs something to do.

Right before the boss died I found a 3rd lightning ball and was free!
And then the fight was over.

Someone must have noticed my struggle, because I got a commendation at the end, even though I mostly did nothing except run around looking for lightning orbs.

I have been without a keyboard. Scariest dungeon experience I've had this year.
The stock batteries in my bluetooth keyboard died, and apparently this thing doesn't warn when power's low. @_@

I was in the middle of healing a DPS who pulled aggro from a boss, while the tank is also getting hurt from adds. And suddenly my heals weren't going through.
Kept tapping buttons but still nothing was going through.
Eventually, I figured out my keyboard died, so I tried to see if I could use the mouse to navigate my way to the autotranslator somehow, so I could at least say (I seem to have misplaced my keyboard.) to warn the party.

Nope! No can do!

Eos was the true healer for that fight.
I had to make do with frantically using my mouse to click back and forth between the party menu and my hotbars.

I would have agreed with you, but your evaluation fell short...he had all the time in that run to type a response other than his compacted version, he wasn't doing anything but auto-attack. Though to save the world I should assume that everyone doesn't have a keyboard and that thumb typing should allow for compact words like "wtf" instead of "what's" or even more compact (abbreviation) of "what's" and eliminate the "'s". I guess I should start using compact words like "bae" because who has time to spell out "babe" right? lol

In this case, my abbreviation of Diminishing Returns is because that word holds 2/3's of the amount of letters that are in in the English vocabulary, again, if he cannot type out "what's" and opts for the "efficient (wtf)", I don't think I should reply, abbreviations like wtf, stfu, gtfo, etc, all have the same thing in common, they are abbreviations created to personify rudeness and annoyance. I would not talk to my family, friends, and co-workers that way and they respond in kind, so I will not go out of my way for someone who can't add one more letter to their 4 letter word.

P.S. I will have to see if my iphone can edit on the forums, never seen the option but good to know that its possible.

I honestly probably would have said "wtf is DR?" myself. Call it improper language if that's the case. I use it pretty much with anyone except at the workplace.

Yeah, "wtf is DR" is a pretty acceptable sentence. Maybe they were pretty terrible anyway, but that's an educational opportunity. And also a dumb abbreviation. Immunity, resistance, something, anything that actually explains what is happening. But mostly, you can't just automatically assume that every player knows all the lingo you do.
