Think of it as reverse synthesis. Also you desynth for synth materials. The whole reason for desynthesis is to get more materials to synth with and to help with leveling of your synths. If you want to desynth, get your synth up high enough to unlock it and level it up. Its fast and easy.

If you do not need or want to reclaim the materials there is no real reason to desynth and item to begin with. That's also why they have the avenue of turning an item into materia or into GC seals. Unlike battle classes which rely on material melding, hence the addition of the melder, there is no reason for someone who does not craft to need desynthesis.

Äh... yeah, I know that, but thanks for the explantion anyways xD

That are actually some pretty good points why there doesnt need to be such an NPC - somre of the "rare" materials you can get from it (...mostly from fish though if we're honest) are a crafters reward for putting the time and effort into it. You're totally right here: if you're not a crafter you dont need desynth - if OP thought of this as a quick and easy way to make gil... well, nope, it isnt

Frankly, I dont think they should be able to bring such stuff back - I got that old ex-primal bow (elven bow, probably?) a few days ago and was a bit like "mmmh...". I know, I know, its not hard to obtain those anymore... still I'd prefer to see any gear that doesnt come from the normal dungeons (or is crafted) locked out from the quick ventures.

Sorry to get a bit off topic, but when I try to use the materia NPC to meld crit or det Vs to some of my augmented lore hear it says it's ilvl is too low and that it won't add any of the materia's bonus. These are pieces that have no crit or det or have them on the uncapped bottom row of stats. Is the NPC bugged or do I need to go recheck ariyala?

the gear has to be ilvl 160 or higher to meld grade 5 materia into it. and only one of the stats on the bottom row is not capped. every piece of gear has 2 capped main stats, one capped secondary stat and one uncapped secondary stat.

Oh, didn't know about the capped secondary stat. Thanks for cleaning that up for me.
