New Equipment sets - Bugged

So the 4 new sets:
Sentinel - Tank
Mercenary - DD
Sorcerer's - Mage
and Sipahi - ????

The Mercenary's Leggings are unique/untradeable/unmeldable/undesirable
The Sentinel Sabatons aren't even unique

Pretty much any gear that can't have materia attached to it is at a severe disadvantage

My question is this?

Is it a bug?

Are these sets meant to be all unique/untradeable/unmeldable?
All tradeable and meldable?
Did SE intend to make it vary from piece to piece?
Why is the entire Sipahi/Mercenary/Sorcerer Set unmeldable/untradeable?
Why only the Sentinel Trousers?

I can't imagine the Sentinel's Sabatons being tradeable and meldable and the Sentinel's Trousers being untradeable and unmeldable

If you did do this on purpose SE, Then no one wants any of the untradeable/unmeldable pieces

All I really want to know is this:
Are these pieces functioning as intended or do I need to submit a bug report?

You're probably thinking what I was thinking: Maybe the untradeable/unmeldable gear just isn't in game yet. Maybe at 1.19a when they open the other stronghold they will change this.

But.... The Mercenary's Leggings are indeed in game... I have seen them...
Also the Sipahi Turban (Which would OWN if you could put materia on it)

So Bayohne... what gives?

Smells like a bug that needs fixing to me

If you think it's a bug, it's better to submit it to the bug section of the forums, and you'll probably receive a better analysis of the problem. Bayohne only really transfers information and feedback and acts as the 'voice' of the higher-ups; he can't do much about problems etc.

Yea, I think I will do that... Although I'm not sure it's a bug.. It could have just been designed this way...
I'd even be satisfied (Although extremely disappointed) if the devs came back with "This is how it was designed to work"
just let us know something

I personally will love to get my hands on a Sorcerer's Robe. It adds a +5 magic crit rate. This stat cannot be added via materia. Let me repeat: this stat cannot be added by materia.

The new gear offers options not available via the materia system. Not better, not worse -- just different.

Did you not actually read my post? Magic Crit Power is not the same as Magic Crit Rate.

Power increases damage dealt when you crit. This you can get with materia.
Rate increases the likelihood that you will crit. This can not get with materia.

Did you read my post???? your robe has +5 magic crit rate

and my felt Robe (Green) has +8 attack magic potency and +50 magic crit power.....

AND...
as if that wasn't enough, that Robe is the ONLY piece of the special sets that has anything that you can't get from materia... and it's douchey +5 magic crit rate

What I find most amusing about your post is that Sagacious Might (+Mag Crit Pot) cannot be added to body pieces. That particular materia can only be added to hands and two-handed CNJ/THM arms.

Body pieces are restricted to +HP, +MP, +Piety, +Vitality, + Elemental Resist, +Crit Attack Power (for physical crits, not magic), +Evasion, and +Defense.

So yes, a body piece with "crappy" +5 magic crit rate is going to help a person do more damage then any other option.

As to other pieces not having anything else special ... the Sentinel's Gauntlets have +5 block rate ... yet another piece not obtainable via materia.

Yes but you take your stats as a whole... and consequently, your materia.
No matter what piece it's on... that is the beauty of materia. Not whats on each piece... but the fact that you as a conj (Assuming a 2 handed weapon) now have 7 spaces for materia as opposed to 6 with the Sorcerer's Robe. Put on the entire set and you have 3 materia spaces instead of 7.
So go put on the Sorcerer's set and then put on a set comprised of craftable meldable gear (with Materia) and compare stats?

Awww.... you're right... thats a good, well thought out point.

except....

You can put materia on the Sentinel's Gauntlets

so now I've got +5 block rate AND +20 dex

I'm not arguing with you, but that's my point
If there were all unique/untradeable/unmeldable, then I'd just live with it. Wouldn't use them, but oh well....
But the fact that some aren't yet MOST are.... I don't really know what the devs were trying to achieve here
