I imagine any new skills in 4.0 will be themed on Alexander. I'm not sure if we'll get a new trance though; what sort of new trance could they give us that wasn't immediately superior or inferior to Dreadwyrm?

Some kind of time magic would be cool though...

I don't know about new abilities, but I do wish you used the power of an Elder Primal to summon that primal temporarily.

I'd have been all over Summoner 50-60 if Dreadwyrm trance was Summon IV, temporarily summoning Bahamut-egi for as long as you can safely do so. Level 60 skill could have been Enkindle II - make Bahamut-egi unleash a powerful attack at a cost of him disappearing after.

Would have tied in nicely with egi glamour as well. Pick Bahamut for Summon IV and have him mega-flare, or Odin with Zantetsuken, or Alexandar casting Divine Judgement. They're all essentially just casting Deathflare, but IMHO it'd be cooler this way .

I quite like this aswell, and they could have just have easily written some Lore around it like they did with trancing.

I have a bit more in-game information to add that I observed but it will cause only more speculation. I went and I talked to Y'mhitra to see if I could glean any more information at all from her dialogue once all the quests are completed, if you ask her for an update she mentions she's going to keep researching, then the very last thing she says something to the extent of "I feel there's some other aspect of Summoning that we're just not seeing yet." Increasing egi power is one idea, taking the trance aspect further to tap in to even more power is another, or maybe it's drawing in aether to empower our spells similar to a primal? Again, pure speculation but it leads me to hope that the next set of abilities will be focused on the actual summoning aspect of the Summoner.

I like to think she's making a nod to the fact that Summoner in this game is so only in name... The aspect of summoning that we're not seeing is summoning... The Jobs rotation is built around DoTs and Aetherflow, when it could easily have been built around the Egi... Why we summon once at the start of battle, and not again unless our pet dies, I'll never know... Who looked at this concept and figured it was Summoner? I don't think I'll ever get over this... The very description of the Job is one that summons powerful creatures to attack... Yet here we are, using DoTs and Ruin to attack... Might as well have a Dragoon with no Jumps...

Rework the pets, so they don't share cooldowns. Give Summoner a skill similar to Dissipation, that effectively gives you Swiftcast instead of Aetherflow stacks. Move various things like Fester and Tri-disaster onto the pets... Mhmmm, then you've got a situation where you throw out Garuda-Egi, she does Tri-disaster, then you sacrifice her to summon Ifrit-Egi to do Fester... Oh look, a Job about summoning, that wasn't too hard...
